日入時、至一方、遂留宿焉、取石為枕、在彼偃卧、夢有梯、自地參天、上帝之使者、陟降於上。耶和華據其巔曰、我乃爾祖亞伯拉罕與以撒之上帝耶和華、爾所寢之地、悉以賚爾、爰及苗裔。爾裔繁衍如塵沙、蔓延四方、天下兆民、憑藉爾裔、以徼福祉。我必祐爾、爾所向往、我必庇護、使歸斯土、不汝遐棄、吾所許者、必踐其言。○雅各醒曰、耶和華果在乎此、而我不知。乃悚然曰、此非上帝之殿、天之闕乎、敢弗寅畏。雅各夙興、以所枕石立為柱、沃膏其上。昔斯邑名路斯、雅各易之曰、伯特利。

耶和華之使、於棘火焰中顯現。摩西見棘焚而不燬、曰、我必回步履、睹此異象、棘焚不燬、曷故。耶和華上帝見摩西回步履、則自棘中呼之曰、摩西、摩西。曰、我在此。曰、爾勿前、解爾履、爾立之所乃聖地。

厥後、我儕生存者、忽同升雲際、空中迎主、與主永偕、

雅各自巴坦亞蘭歸、上帝復顯現、錫嘏曰、爾素名雅各、斯後不第稱此、可更名以色列、遂稱曰以色列。

雅各曰、請以爾名告我。曰、曷問我名。遂在彼錫嘏。

萬有之主耶和華曰、我遣使者、備道於我前、爾所求所悅之上主、盟約之天使、果將至矣、率入厥殿、

且未有大於上帝者、其許亞伯拉罕時、指己而誓、曰、吾必大賚爾福祉、昌熾爾子孫、亞伯拉罕恆忍以待、故獲所許、凡人之誓、必指大於己者、誓所以堅其信、而違言息矣、上帝欲使將得福之人、知其旨不易、故實之以誓、上帝真實無妄、既許之而復誓之、皆不可易、吾素避難、冀得所許之福、大可慰藉、

夫基督在世時、大聲疾呼、繼之號泣祈禱、以求能免其死者、升聞於上、釋己憂懼、

遂禱曰吾祖亞伯拉罕之上帝、吾父以撒之上帝耶和華、昔命我回故土、故族、許以恩待、爾所施之恩寵、真實無妄、我不堪得、昔我惟執一杖濟約但河、今我群從已成二隊。我畏兄以掃、恐其至擊我、並擊妻拏、故求爾拯我。爾曾許以恩加我、使我苗裔如海沙、不可勝數。○

民遭患難、主懷憂戚、自天遣使、以拯其災、特加眷愛、以贖其身、自昔迄今、扶翼之者屢矣。

變海為陸、俾人步趨、樂讚上帝兮。
