The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.

The people who live in Samaria are filled with fear. They are afraid for their god that looks like a calf. They’re afraid it will be carried off from Beth Aven, that evil town. They will mourn over it. So will the priests who led them to worship it. The priests were full of joy because their statue was so glorious. But it will be captured and taken far away from them.

The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced over it and over its glory— for it has departed from them.

「雖然以色列如同妓女，對我不忠，但不要使猶大犯罪。不要到吉甲去，不要到伯·亞文去，不要憑永活的耶和華起誓。

我鄙棄撒瑪利亞人所拜的牛犢，我要向他們發怒，他們到什麼時候才能潔身自守呢？這牛犢是以色列的工匠造的，並不是神，必被砸得粉碎。

她給孩子取名叫以迦博，意思是：「榮耀離開以色列了」。這是因為上帝的約櫃被擄走，她的公公和丈夫都死了。她說：「榮耀離開了以色列，因為上帝的約櫃已經被擄走了。」

這樣下去，不但我們的行業會遭人貶抑，連亞底米女神廟也會被人輕看，甚至全亞細亞及普世尊崇的女神也會威嚴掃地！」

可是，他重蹈尼八的兒子耶羅波安的覆轍，拜伯特利和但兩地的金牛犢，使以色列人陷入罪中。

當時，約書亞從耶利哥派人去偵察伯特利東邊靠近伯·亞文的艾城。

「地上的商人也為她哀傷，因為再也沒有人購買他們的貨物了。他們的金、銀、寶石、珍珠、細麻布、紫布、絲綢、朱紅布、各樣香木、象牙器具，貴重木材、銅、鐵、大理石製品，以及肉桂、荳蔻、香料、香膏、乳香、酒、油、細麵粉、小麥、牛、羊、馬、車、僕婢和人口都沒有人購買了。他們呼喊，『巴比倫啊！你貪愛的美物已離你而去了，一切珍饈百味、奢侈華麗的東西都消失殆盡，無影無蹤。』「靠販賣這些貨物給她而致富的商人對她所受的災禍充滿恐懼，就站在遠處為她哀傷哭號，說，『身穿紫色和朱紅色的細麻布衣服，以黃金、寶石、珍珠為裝飾的大城啊，真悲慘！真悲慘！因為頃刻間你這一切的繁華都化為烏有了。』所有船主、乘客、水手及靠海為生的人都遠遠地站著，看見燒她的煙，就說，『有哪一座城能與她相比呢？』他們又把塵土撒在頭上，哀傷哭泣，喊著說，『這大城啊，真悲慘！真悲慘！所有經營航運的都因她的奢華而發了財，可是頃刻間她卻淪為廢墟了！』

米迦說：「你們帶走了我的神像和祭司，把我洗劫一空，還問我想做什麽！」

他徵詢臣僚的意見後，就鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對民眾說：「以色列人啊，你們上耶路撒冷敬拜太麻煩了。這兩個金牛犢就是領你們出埃及的神明。」他把一個金牛犢安置在伯特利，另一個安置在但。這使民眾陷入罪中，因為他們開始到但去拜金牛犢。耶羅波安又在高崗上修建神廟，任命各樣的人做祭司，他們並非利未人。耶羅波安規定每年八月十五日為節期，好像猶大的節期一樣。他自己在伯特利的祭壇上向金牛犢獻祭燒香，又派神廟的祭司在獻祭中司職。
