恐怕你們中間有男人或女人，家族或支派，今日心裡偏離了耶和華我們的神，去事奉那些國的神，又恐怕你們中間有惡根，生出毒草和苦堇來；

你們要小心，免得有人失去了神的恩典；免得有苦根長起來纏繞你們，因而污染了許多人；

就是悖逆、否認耶和華，轉去不跟從我們的神，說欺壓和背道的話，心裡懷著謊言，隨即說出來；公平被迫後退，公義站在遠處；誠實在街上跌倒，正直不能進入。誠實缺乏，遠離惡事的人反成為掠物。耶和華看見了，就看這為惡事（“就看這為惡事”或譯：“很不喜悅”），因為一點公平也沒有。

第三位天使吹號，就有一顆燃燒著的大星，好像火把一樣，從天上落下來，落在江河的三分之一上，和眾水的泉源上。這星名叫“苦堇”。眾水的三分之一變為“苦堇”，因水變苦，就有許多人因為這水而死了。

因為萬軍之耶和華的葡萄園就是以色列家，他喜悅的樹就是猶大人；他期望的是公平，但看到的只是流血的事；他期望的是公義，聽到的只是哀叫聲。

我看出你正在苦膽之中，邪惡捆綁著你。”
