This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.

Melchizedek did not trace his family line from Levi. But he collected a tenth from Abraham. Melchizedek blessed the one who had received the promises.

But this man who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.

蓋亞伯漢及其苗裔、承天主恩諾、得嗣大地者、非憑律法之制、乃緣信德之義。

經中不載其父母世系、及生卒年歲、而稱之為永久之司祭者、蓋欲使為天主聖子之前影耳。爾等盍一思之、我先祖亞伯漢、且以其戰利珍品什一以貢焉、則麥基德之尊貴為何如乎？

爾曹乃先知之後；天主與我祖立約、亦為爾曹。

此數人者、皆懷抱信德而死、生前未見恩諾之通盤實現、惟高瞻遠矚、延頸舉踵企而迎之。同時復自認人生在世、猶如羇旅他鄉、暫作過客而已。

麥基德者、瑟琳之王而至尊天主之司祭也。方亞伯漢殲滅眾王、凱旋而歸也、麥基德迎之於途、而為之祝嘏；

方天主之授恩諾於亞伯漢也、憑己而誓曰：『吾必介爾景福、錫爾多子。』其所以憑己而誓者、以無更大者足憑耳。亞伯漢乃寧靜恆忍以待、卒獲所諾。

我兄弟骨肉者、義塞人也；其名分則屬天主之子女；凡光榮、盟約、律法、禮儀、以及重重恩諾、無一而非其固有之家業；

且當亞伯漢之見試也、毅然以依灑格為獻夫彼乃承受恩諾之人也；

夫天主所許之恩諾、早向亞伯漢為之、『以及其裔。』於此所當注意者、主未曰「及爾眾裔、」一若多數也者；但曰：「以及其裔、」裔一而已、基督是也。
