fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.

But I will keep watching for the LORD; I will wait for the God who delivers me. My God will hear my lament.

The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

When he was maligned, he did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatened no retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges justly.He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed.

as we wait for the happy fulfillment of our hope in the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.

and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

so also, after Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await him he will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation.

He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death– even death on a cross!As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow– in heaven and on earth and under the earth–and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

For this is the will of my Father– for everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him to have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

God exalted him to his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Wasn’t it necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

who went into heaven and is at the right hand of God with angels and authorities and powers subject to him.

“ To the angel of the church in Smyrna write the following:“ This is the solemn pronouncement of the one who is the first and the last, the one who was dead, but came to life:

But our citizenship is in heaven– and we also await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,

Because Jesus knew that the Father had handed all things over to him, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,

We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced.

Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to me in that day– and not to me only, but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing.

Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

maintain yourselves in the love of God, while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory, who is the Spirit of God, rests on you.But let none of you suffer as a murderer or thief or criminal or as a troublemaker.But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear such a name.

He was despised and rejected by people, one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness; people hid their faces from him; he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

When Judas had gone out, Jesus said,“ Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him right away.

And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

I will wait patiently for the LORD, who has rejected the family of Jacob; I will wait for him.

Turn to me so you can be delivered, all you who live in the earth’s remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer.

And by being perfected in this way, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

They probed into what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christ and his subsequent glory.

For David says about him,‘ I saw the Lord always in front of me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken.Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced; my body also will live in hope,

Those who go down to Egypt for help are as good as dead, those who rely on war horses, and trust in Egypt’s many chariots and in their many, many horsemen. But they do not rely on the Holy One of Israel and do not seek help from the LORD.

Your father Abraham was overjoyed to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.”

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The LORD avenges me. O LORD, your loyal love endures. Do not abandon those whom you have made!

Immediately the father of the boy cried out and said,“ I believe; help my unbelief!”

I tell you the solemn truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces much grain.

The apostles said to the Lord,“ Increase our faith!”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, he looked upward to heaven and said,“ Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may glorify you–just as you have given him authority over all humanity, so that he may give eternal life to everyone you have given him.Now this is eternal life– that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.I glorified you on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.

Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. And some slapped him,saying,“ Prophesy for us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

He said to them,“ Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, dressing him in elegant clothes, Herod sent him back to Pilate.

He said,“ Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

From that time on Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.

I offered my back to those who attacked, my jaws to those who tore out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spitting.But the sovereign LORD helps me, so I am not humiliated. For that reason I am steadfastly resolved; I know I will not be put to shame.

The people also stood there watching, but the rulers ridiculed him, saying,“ He saved others. Let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine,and saying,“ If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!”There was also an inscription over him,“ This is the king of the Jews.”One of the criminals who was hanging there railed at him, saying,“ Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!”

On the next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said,“ Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

So my heart rejoices and I am happy; My life is safe.You will not abandon me to Sheol; you will not allow your faithful follower to see the Pit.You lead me in the path of life; I experience absolute joy in your presence; you always give me sheer delight.

he says,“ Is it too insignificant a task for you to be my servant, to reestablish the tribes of Jacob, and restore the remnant of Israel? I will make you a light to the nations, so you can bring my deliverance to the remote regions of the earth.”This is what the LORD, the protector of Israel, their Holy One, says to the one who is despised and rejected by nations, a servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and rise in respect, princes will bow down, because of the faithful LORD, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.”

“ I will pour out on the kingship of David and the population of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication so that they will look to me, the one they have pierced. They will lament for him as one laments for an only son, and there will be a bitter cry for him like the bitter cry for a firstborn.

Though the LORD desired to crush him and make him ill, once restitution is made, he will see descendants and enjoy long life, and the LORD’s purpose will be accomplished through him.Having suffered, he will reflect on his work, he will be satisfied when he understands what he has done.“ My servant will acquit many, for he carried their sins.So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes, he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful, because he willingly submitted to death and was numbered with the rebels, when he lifted up the sin of many and intervened on behalf of the rebels.”

For by one offering he has perfected for all time those who are made holy.

and to reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which the hostility has been killed.

for the law made nothing perfect. On the other hand a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.

And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.”

saying:“ Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches– to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Here is the LORD’s proclamation to my lord:“ Sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool!”

You know how I am insulted, humiliated and disgraced; you can see all my enemies.Their insults are painful and make me lose heart; I look for sympathy, but receive none, for comforters, but find none.

“ I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God– the one who is, and who was, and who is still to come– the All- Powerful!

When I saw him I fell down at his feet as though I were dead, but he placed his right hand on me and said:“ Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

But to which of the angels has he ever said,“ Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?

At times you were publicly exposed to abuse and afflictions, and at other times you came to share with others who were treated in that way.

Think of him who endured such opposition against himself by sinners, so that you may not grow weary in your souls and give up.

You made him lower than the angels for a little while. You crowned him with glory and honor.You put all things under his control.” For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control,but we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by God’s grace he would experience death on behalf of everyone.For it was fitting for him, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

So when he came into the world, he said,“ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.“ Whole burnt offerings and sin- offerings you took no delight in.“ Then I said,‘ Here I am: I have come– it is written of me in the scroll of the book– to do your will, O God.’”When he says above,“ Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin- offerings you did not desire nor did you take delight in them”( which are offered according to the law),then he says,“ Here I am: I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first to establish the second.By his will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.And every priest stands day after day serving and offering the same sacrifices again and again– sacrifices that can never take away sins.But when this priest had offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, he sat down at the right hand of God,

But I am a worm, not a man; people insult me and despise me.All who see me taunt me; they mock me and shake their heads.They say,“ Commit yourself to the LORD! Let the LORD rescue him! Let the LORD deliver him, for he delights in him.”

Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s residence and gathered the whole cohort around him.They stripped him and put a scarlet robe around him,and after braiding a crown of thorns, they put it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand, and kneeling down before him, they mocked him:“ Hail, king of the Jews!”They spat on him and took the staff and struck him repeatedly on the head.When they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.As they were going out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, whom they forced to carry his cross.They came to a place called Golgotha( which means“ Place of the Skull”)and offered Jesus wine mixed with gall to drink. But after tasting it, he would not drink it.When they had crucified him, they divided his clothes by throwing dice.Then they sat down and kept guard over him there.Above his head they put the charge against him, which read:“ This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.”Then two outlaws were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their headsand saying,“ You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are God’s Son, come down from the cross!”In the same way even the chief priests– together with the experts in the law and elders– were mocking him:“ He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down now from the cross, we will believe in him!He trusts in God– let God, if he wants to, deliver him now because he said,‘ I am God’s Son’!”The robbers who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.Now from noon until three, darkness came over all the land.At about three o’clock Jesus shouted with a loud voice,“ Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is,“ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”When some of the bystanders heard it, they said,“ This man is calling for Elijah.”Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and gave it to him to drink.But the rest said,“ Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to save him.”Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit.

“ Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the experts in the law. They will condemn him to death,and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged severely and crucified. Yet on the third day, he will be raised.”Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, and kneeling down she asked him for a favor.
