Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

A huge cloud of witnesses is all around us. So let us throw off everything that stands in our way. Let us throw off any sin that holds on to us so tightly. And let us keep on running the race marked out for us.

But take heed to yourselves, lest haply your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day come on you suddenly as a snare:

that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death;if by any means I may attain unto the resurrection from the dead.Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect: but I press on, if so be that I may lay hold on that for which also I was laid hold on by Christ Jesus.Brethren, I count not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before,I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.

Ye were running well; who hindered you that ye should not obey the truth?

Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry;for which things’ sake cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience:wherein ye also once walked, when ye lived in these things;but now do ye also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, railing, shameful speaking out of your mouth:

rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing stedfastly in prayer;

And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness;and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope:and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us.

Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is at hand.Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold, the judge standeth before the doors.Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spake in the name of the Lord.Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of pity, and merciful.

And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep: for now is salvation nearer to us than when we first believed.The night is far spent, and the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in revelling and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and jealousy.But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of this life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

to them that by patience in well- doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:

knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.

But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.

For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth?But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

And that which fell among the thorns, these are they that have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.And that in the good ground, these are such as in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it fast, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have wherewith to complete it?Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him,saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

and in your knowledge self- control; and in your self- control patience; and in your patience godliness;

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright, the morning star.

If any man is for captivity, into captivity he goeth: if any man shall kill with the sword, with the sword must he be killed. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness.

But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

I John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patience which are in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.

Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.

I was also perfect with him, And I kept myself from mine iniquity.

and thou shalt come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land: it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring thee against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.But he said unto him, Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but go thou and publish abroad the kingdom of God.And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord; but first suffer me to bid farewell to them that are at my house.But Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

And thou shalt ascend, thou shalt come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy hordes, and many peoples with thee.

For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.
