你這對木頭說“起來”，對啞石說“醒吧”的人，有禍了！它怎能教導你呢？看哪！它包金鑲銀，裡面卻全無氣息。

謂木曰寤、謂啞石曰起、其人禍哉、此物豈能垂訓乎、彼飾以金銀、而中無生氣、

木石不能言、有求其起而庇佑者、禍必不遠、維彼偶像、雖飾金銀、不通呼吸、焉能有應、

呼木偶曰、醒歟、呼不能言之石像曰、起歟、斯人禍矣、偶像豈能應應或作垂訓乎、俱飾以金銀者、其中無生氣、其中無生氣或作不通呼吸

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Come to life!’ Or to lifeless stone,‘ Wake up!’ Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.”

How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They say to a wooden god,‘ Come to life!’ They say to a stone god,‘ Wake up!’ Can those gods give advice? They are covered with gold and silver. They can’t even breathe.”

Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it.

What sorrow awaits you who say to wooden idols,‘ Wake up and save us!’ To speechless stone images you say,‘ Rise up and teach us!’ Can an idol tell you what to do? They may be overlaid with gold and silver, but they are lifeless inside.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

Woe to him who says to wood,‘ Awake!’ To silent stone,‘ Arise! It shall teach!’ Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all.

Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise! Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Woe to him who says to wood: Wake up! or to mute stone: Come alive! Can it teach? Look! It may be plated with gold and silver, yet there is no breath in it at all.

Woe to him who says to the wood,‘ Awake!’ or to the mute stone,‘ Arise!’ Shall this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all within it.

有耳卻不能聽，口中也沒有氣息。

他們用金銀把它修飾，用釘子和鎚子把它釘牢，使它不動搖。

他們把人給他們的公牛牽了來，預備好了，就從早晨直到中午，呼求巴力的名，說：“巴力啊，應允我們吧！”可是沒有聲音，也沒有回應。他們就在所築的祭壇周圍跳舞。到了中午，以利亞嘲笑他們，說：“大聲呼求吧，因為他是神，也許他正在默想，或事務繁忙，或正在旅行，或正在睡覺，你們要把他叫醒。”他們就大聲呼求，按著他們的規矩，用刀和槍刺自己，直到身體流血。中午過後，他們繼續狂呼亂叫，直到獻晚祭的時候；可是仍沒有聲音，沒有回應，也沒有理睬他們的。

那些偶像鑲有經過錘煉的銀片，銀子是從他施運來的，也有從烏法運來的金子，都是匠人和金匠手作的產品。它們穿著藍色和紫色的衣服，全都是巧匠的作品。

他用剩下來的一半做了一個神像，就是他雕刻的偶像，他向它俯伏，向它敬拜，又向它禱告，說：“求你救我，因為你是我的神。”

因此，你看，日子快到，我必懲罰巴比倫的偶像；巴比倫全地都必蒙羞，所有被刺殺的人都必倒在境內。

水手都很懼怕，各人向自己的神大聲呼求；他們為了減輕船的重量，就把船上的東西拋在海裡，可是約拿卻下了船艙，躺著熟睡了。

尼布甲尼撒王造了一座金像，高二十七公尺，寬三公尺，豎立在巴比倫省的杜拉平原上。

我們既然是神的子孫，就不應該以為他的神性是好像人用手藝、心思所雕刻的金銀石頭一樣。

人人都是頑梗無知；所有的金匠都因偶像羞愧，因為他們鑄造的像都是虛假、沒有氣息的。

至於偶像，是匠人鑄造的，鑄匠用金子把它包裹，用銀子為它做銀鍊。

願所有事奉雕刻的偶像的，以虛無的偶像為誇口的，都蒙羞；眾神哪！你們都要拜他。

那婦人穿著紫色和朱紅色的衣服，佩戴著金子、寶石和珍珠的裝飾，手裡拿著金杯，盛滿了可憎的物，和她淫亂的污穢。

那些從錢袋倒出金子，用天平稱銀子的人，雇用金匠製造神像；他們向神像又俯伏又叩拜。

因此，各國、各族和說各種語言的人，一聽見角、笛、琵琶、弦琴、豎琴和各種樂器的聲音，就都俯伏，向尼布甲尼撒王所立的金像下拜。

即或不然，王啊！你要知道，我們決不事奉你的神，也不向你所立的金像下拜。”

竟高抬自己，敵對天上的主，使人把他殿中的器皿拿到你面前來，你和你的大臣、妻妾、妃嬪用這些器皿喝酒；你又讚美那些不能看見、不能聽見、甚麼都不能知道，用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神，卻沒有把榮耀歸給那手中有你的氣息，和那掌管你一切命途的神。

我現在下令：無論各國、各族、說各種語言的人，凡說話得罪沙得拉、米煞、亞伯尼歌的神的，必被碎屍萬段，他的家也必成為廢墟，因為沒有別的神能這樣施行拯救。”
