So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.

示劍人和米羅人都一同聚集，往示劍橡樹旁的柱子那裏，立亞比米勒為王。

當日，約書亞就與百姓立約，在示劍為他們立定律例典章。約書亞將這些話都寫在神的律法書上，又將一塊大石頭立在橡樹下耶和華的聖所旁邊。

基甸又對他們說：「我有一件事求你們：請你們各人將所奪的耳環給我。」（原來仇敵是以實瑪利人，都是戴金耳環的。）他們說：「我們情願給你」，就鋪開一件外衣，各人將所奪的耳環丟在其上。基甸所要出來的金耳環重一千七百舍客勒金子。此外還有米甸王所戴的月環、耳墜，和所穿的紫色衣服，並駱駝項上的金鍊子。基甸以此製造了一個以弗得，設立在本城俄弗拉。後來以色列人拜那以弗得行了邪淫；這就作了基甸和他全家的網羅。

我必追討她素日給諸巴力燒香的罪；那時她佩帶耳環和別樣妝飾，隨從她所愛的，卻忘記我。這是耶和華說的。

又將他們所鑄的牛犢用火焚燒，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。

到那日，人必將為拜而造的金偶像、銀偶像拋給田鼠和蝙蝠。

你們卻要這樣待他們：拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的柱像，砍下他們的木偶，用火焚燒他們雕刻的偶像。

他們雕刻的神像，你們要用火焚燒；其上的金銀，你不可貪圖，也不可收取，免得你因此陷入網羅；這原是耶和華－你神所憎惡的。

你雕刻偶像所包的銀子和鑄造偶像所鍍的金子，你要玷污，要拋棄，好像污穢之物，對偶像說：「去吧！」

亞倫對他們說：「你們去摘下你們妻子、兒女耳上的金環，拿來給我。」百姓就都摘下他們耳上的金環，拿來給亞倫。亞倫從他們手裏接過來，鑄了一隻牛犢，用雕刻的器具做成。他們就說：「以色列啊，這是領你出埃及地的神。」
