Then the LORD said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign country. They will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要的确知道，你的后裔必寄居别人的地，又服侍那地的人；那地的人要苦待他们四百年。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确实知道，你的后裔必寄居在别人的地，服事那地的人；那地的人要虐待他们四百年。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确实知道，你的后裔必寄居在别人的地，服事那地的人；那地的人要虐待他们四百年。

耶和华对他说：“你要清楚知道，你的后裔必流落异乡，被奴役、虐待四百年。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确实地知道，你的后裔必在外地寄居，也必服事那地的人，那地的人苦待他们四百年。

耶和华对亚伯兰说：“你要确切知道：你的后裔将在不属于自己的地上寄居，并服事那地的人；那地的人将苦待他们四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要的確知道，你的後裔必寄居別人的地，又服事那地的人；那地的人要苦待他們四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要確實知道，你的後裔必寄居在別人的地，服事那地的人；那地的人要虐待他們四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要確實知道，你的後裔必寄居在別人的地，服事那地的人；那地的人要虐待他們四百年。

耶和華對他說：「你要清楚知道，你的後裔必流落異鄉，被奴役、虐待四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：“你要確實地知道，你的後裔必在外地寄居，也必服事那地的人，那地的人苦待他們四百年。

永恆主對亞伯蘭說：『你要確實知道：你的後裔必寄居在一個不是自己之地的所在，必服事那地的人，那地的人必苦害他們四百年。

耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要確切知道：你的後裔將在不屬於自己的地上寄居，並服事那地的人；那地的人將苦待他們四百年。

耶和華諭之曰、爾當實知、汝裔必旅於異邦、服役良苦、歷四百年、

耶和華曰、爾當知爾苗裔必旅於異邦、服役良苦、歷四百年。

主諭亞伯蘭曰、爾當知爾後裔必旅於異邦、異邦人役之苦之、歷四百年、

Then the Lord said to him,“ Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.

Then the Lord said to him,“ You can be sure of what I am about to tell you. For 400 years, your family who comes after you will be strangers in another country. They will become slaves there and will be treated badly.

Then the Lord said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years.

Then the Lord said to Abram,“ You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years.

Then the LORD said to Abram,“ Know this for certain: Your offspring will be resident aliens for four hundred years in a land that does not belong to them and will be enslaved and oppressed.

Then God said to Abram,“ Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, where they will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

Then He said to Abram:“ Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

Then the Lord said to Abram,“ Know this for certain: Your offspring will be foreigners in a land that does not belong to them; they will be enslaved and oppressed 400 years.

And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land[ that is] not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

He said to Abram,“ Know for sure that your offspring will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

But God spoke as follows:‘ Your descendants will be foreigners in a foreign country, whose citizens will enslave them and mistreat them for four hundred years.But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,’ said God,‘ and after these things they will come out of there and worship me in this place.’

What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to invalidate the promise.

So they put foremen over the Israelites to oppress them with hard labor. As a result they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.

Now the length of time the Israelites lived in Egypt was 430 years.At the end of the 430 years, on the very day, all the regiments of the LORD went out of the land of Egypt.

“ But as the time drew near for God to fulfill the promise he had declared to Abraham, the people increased greatly in number in Egypt,

These are the names of the sons of Israel who entered Egypt– each man with his household entered with Jacob:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

The foreigner who resides with you must be to you like a native citizen among you; so you must love him as yourself, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said,“ Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel,‘ Release my people so that they may hold a pilgrim feast to me in the desert.’”But Pharaoh said,“ Who is the LORD that I should obey him by releasing Israel? I do not know the LORD, and I will not release Israel!”And they said,“ The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Let us go a three-day journey into the desert so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God, so that he does not strike us with plague or the sword.”The king of Egypt said to them,“ Moses and Aaron, why do you cause the people to refrain from their work? Return to your labor!”Pharaoh was thinking,“ The people of the land are now many, and you are giving them rest from their labor.”That same day Pharaoh commanded the slave masters and foremen who were over the people:“ You must no longer give straw to the people for making bricks as before. Let them go and collect straw for themselves.But you must require of them the same quota of bricks that they were making before. Do not reduce it, for they are slackers. That is why they are crying,‘ Let us go sacrifice to our God.’Make the work harder for the men so they will keep at it and pay no attention to lying words!”So the slave masters of the people and their foremen went to the Israelites and said,“ Thus says Pharaoh:‘ I am not giving you straw.You go get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it, because there will be no reduction at all in your workload.’”So the people spread out through all the land of Egypt to collect stubble for straw.The slave masters were pressuring them, saying,“ Complete your work for each day, just like when there was straw!”The Israelite foremen whom Pharaoh’s slave masters had set over them were beaten and were asked,“ Why did you not complete your requirement for brickmaking as in the past– both yesterday and today?”The Israelite foremen went and cried out to Pharaoh,“ Why are you treating your servants this way?No straw is given to your servants, but we are told,‘ Make bricks!’ Your servants are even being beaten, but the fault is with your people.”But Pharaoh replied,“ You are slackers! Slackers! That is why you are saying,‘ Let us go sacrifice to the LORD.’So now, get back to work! You will not be given straw, but you must still produce your quota of bricks!”The Israelite foremen saw that they were in trouble when they were told,“ You must not reduce the daily quota of your bricks.”When they went out from Pharaoh, they encountered Moses and Aaron standing there to meet them,and they said to them,“ May the LORD look on you and judge, because you have made us stink in the opinion of Pharaoh and his servants, so that you have given them an excuse to kill us!”Moses returned to the LORD, and said,“ Lord, why have you caused trouble for this people? Why did you ever send me?From the time I went to speak to Pharaoh in your name, he has caused trouble for this people, and you have certainly not rescued them!”

So you must love the resident foreigner because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

“ You must not wrong a foreigner nor oppress him, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

I will give the whole land of Canaan– the land where you are now residing– to you and your descendants after you as a permanent possession. I will be their God.”

Israel moved to Egypt; Jacob lived for a time in the land of Ham.The LORD made his people very fruitful, and made them more numerous than their enemies.He caused them to hate his people, and to mistreat his servants.

“ You must not oppress a foreigner, since you know the life of a foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”When they were few in number, just a very few, and resident aliens within it,

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place he would later receive as an inheritance, and he went out without understanding where he was going.By faith he lived as a foreigner in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs of the same promise.For he was looking forward to the city with firm foundations, whose architect and builder is God.By faith, even though Sarah herself was barren and he was too old, he received the ability to procreate, because he regarded the one who had given the promise to be trustworthy.So in fact children were fathered by one man– and this one as good as dead– like the number of stars in the sky and like the innumerable grains of sand on the seashore.These all died in faith without receiving the things promised, but they saw them in the distance and welcomed them and acknowledged that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth.
