若云嗣業係據律法、則不復淵源於恩諾矣。然而嗣業、固天主所許於亞伯漢之恩賜也。

For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on the promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise.

切勿有所懈弛、當踵效昔賢、篤信不移、堅忍不拔、而終得承嗣恩諾也。方天主之授恩諾於亞伯漢也、憑己而誓曰：『吾必介爾景福、錫爾多子。』其所以憑己而誓者、以無更大者足憑耳。亞伯漢乃寧靜恆忍以待、卒獲所諾。

蓋亞伯漢及其苗裔、承天主恩諾、得嗣大地者、非憑律法之制、乃緣信德之義。若惟屬於律法者得為嗣子、是不啻廢棄信德、而致恩諾於無效也。夫法者、刑戮之器也；法之不存、何犯之有。是故人之為嗣、所緣惟信德、所恃惟慈惠；庶幾天主之恩諾、能普被眾裔、不僅限於屬法者亦且兼及具有亞伯漢之信德者。

用示矜憐、於我列祖；以懷聖約、以踐誓許。亞伯漢者、吾族之父、仁主許之、厥裔是護；

既為兒女、即為嗣子；既為天主之嗣子、則亦為基督之共同繼承人也。惟是吾人如欲與之共榮、則不可不先與之共苦共難耳。

吾寧能辜負天主之恩寵哉？苟尚緣律法而求義、則基督之死、為徒然矣。』

蓋爾等皆因信仰耶穌基督、而成天主之子女矣。

亞伯漢。主之僕。雅谷伯。蒙拔擢。聖祖裔。可不勉。能敬主。庶無忝。我眞主。惟雅瑋。彼宏謨。塞天地。主不忘。所盟誓。將聖言。詔萬世。受盟者。亞伯漢。聞誓者。曰義繖。向雅谷。申舊命。俾吾族。永保定。吾賜爾。迦南地。爾子孫。繩繩繼。當彼時。人可數。在迦南。如客旅。

夫天主所許之恩諾、早向亞伯漢為之、『以及其裔。』於此所當注意者、主未曰「及爾眾裔、」一若多數也者；但曰：「以及其裔、」裔一而已、基督是也。

主永懷。夙所言。亦未忘。鼻祖賢。

若夫徒恃律法者、則實處於咒咀之下。經不云乎：『凡不遵行律法之一切規定者、應服咒詛。』

夫爾等既屬基督即為亞伯漢之裔、亦即承恩諾之嗣子也。

而律法則無與於信德、但云：『順此者存』而已。

扶植僕義塞、舊恩依然在；每許我列祖、恩諾終不改；矜憐亞伯漢、苗裔永見愛。』
