For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

The great gift that God has for us does not depend on the law. If it did, it would no longer depend on the promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a free gift through a promise.

For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

蓋亞伯拉罕及其後裔、蒙許將為嗣子以嗣世界、非由律法、乃由信之義、若屬律法者為嗣子、則信歸於虛、所許亦廢矣、蓋律法致刑、無律法則無過犯、是以為嗣子乃因乎信、使所許者、因恩而定、且歸眾苗裔、不獨歸於屬律法者、亦歸於有亞伯拉罕之信之人、亞伯拉罕於天主前、為我眾之父、如經載云、我立爾為萬民之父、天主能使死復生、命無為有、亞伯拉罕信之、

矜恤我祖、念其聖約、即與我祖亞伯拉罕所矢之誓、

民曰、天主歟、何神能比主、主之遺民、主之遺民原文作主業之遺餘者有愆尤罪惡、主乃赦宥之、主以矜憫為悅、不恆懷怒、主必復矜憫我、除我愆尤、以民之諸罪、投諸深淵、主必循在古時與我列祖所立之誓、將施誠實於雅各、加恩惠於亞伯拉罕、

既為子則為嗣、即天主之嗣、與基督同為嗣、我儕若與之同苦、亦必與之同榮、○

我不棄天主恩、若由律法可得稱義、則基督之死徒然矣、

蓋爾曹由信基督耶穌、皆為天主之子、

爾曹當追念主所行之奇事、追念主之異跡、並主口宣之判語、原文五節作六節六節作五節耶和華及我儕天主、主之律法、流行全地、永遠記念所立之約、所定之命、萬世不忘、即與亞伯拉罕所立之約、向以撒所發之誓、為雅各定為長久之命、與以色列立為永遠之約、曰、我必賜爾以迦南地、為爾應得之產業、當時彼尚人寡、其數無幾、在斯地寄居為旅、

天主應許亞伯拉罕及其裔、不云爾之眾裔、而指多人、乃云爾裔、而指一人、即基督也、

皆因主記念昔向亞伯拉罕所許之聖言、

凡恃行律法之功者、皆服詛、蓋經載云、凡不恆遵律法書所載而盡行之者、服詛也、

爾若屬基督、則為亞伯拉罕之裔、且循所許而為嗣子矣、

律法不本乎信、惟云、若行此、則因之得生、

扶持其僕以色列、垂念矜恤亞伯拉罕及其苗裔、至於世世、如昔諭我祖之言、
