if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil— that person will surely live; they will not die.

They return things they take to make sure loans are repaid. They give back what they have stolen. They obey my rules that give life. They do not do what is evil. Then you can be sure they will live. They will not die.

if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

For instance, they might give back a debtor’s security, return what they have stolen, and obey my life giving laws, no longer doing what is evil. If they do this, then they will surely live and not die.

如人盜牛羊、或宰或鬻、當以五牛償一牛、四羊償一羊、遇盜穿窬、擊斃之、不抵罪、若日已出、斃之則抵罪、盜須償所竊、設無所有、則鬻其身以償、倘其所竊牛羊或驢、尚生存於盜手、則償之維倍、○

如人獲罪、干犯耶和華、於受託、貿易而欺人、或竊物、或虐鄰、拾人所遺、而誑言發誓、於此諸事獲罪、既已獲罪有咎、必以所竊取、所虐取、所受託、所拾遺、及所誑言發誓而據之物、悉反諸人、於罪顯露之日、必以原物之值、加五分之一、歸於其主、

未欺凌人、反負者之質、不奪人之物、飢者供以食、裸者被以衣、

故當循我典章、守我律例、人若行之、則緣此而得生、我乃耶和華也、○

二人在上帝前、義者也、於主之誡命禮儀、悉遵行之、無間然也、

惟以色列家在曠野、悖逆乎我、不循我典章、棄我律例、人若遵行、則緣之得生、且犯我安息日特甚、我則曰、必在曠野、傾我怒以滅之、

賓旅與孤、勿反其正、勿以嫠衣為質、

如貸於人、勿入其家取質、必立於外、待其攜質出以予爾、如其人貧、勿留其質越宿、日入時、必反之、使其有衣以寢、為爾祝嘏、則爾上帝耶和華必以為義、

驅孤子之驢、取嫠婦之牛為質、

如取人衣為質、日未入必反之、蓋彼蔽體只有此衣、無之何以安寢、我乃仁慈、彼籲於我、我必聞之、○

又有奪孤子於母懷、取窮人所服者為質、

蓋爾無故、取同儕之質、剝貧寒之衣、

惟其子女背我、不循我典章、不從我律例、人若遵行、則緣之得生、且犯我安息日、我則曰、必在曠野傾我怒、盡洩我忿於其身、

我必速至、攜其值、各依其工而報之、我為始與終、先與後、本與末、滌其袍者福矣、俾得權於維生之樹、由諸門而入邑、

爾以訓詞甦我、故我永不忘之兮、

告以色列族云、如男女蹈愆、干犯耶和華、自取罪戾、當認其過、盡償所負、加五分之一、與所負之人、倘欲償之、而其人無戚屬、則宜償於耶和華、而歸於祭司、此外、亦獻牡綿羊為祭、以贖其罪、

如惡人轉離所行之惡、循法合理、必保其生、因其思維、悛改所犯之罪、必得生存、不至死亡、

以所質之衣、陳於諸壇之側、偃臥其上、以所罰之酒、飲於其神之室、

欺凌貧乏、奪人之物、不反人之質、瞻仰偶像、行可惡之事、

不欺凌人、不受人之質、不奪人之物、飢者供以食、裸者被以衣、

毋取上下磨為質、蓋質人之生命也、○
