For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if[ there be] any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,

For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away[ the guilt of] innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.

But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.

And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.

For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

And when the barbarians saw the[ venomous] beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; beside his sin wherewith he made Judah to sin, in doing[ that which was] evil in the sight of the LORD.

And they lay wait for their[ own] blood; they lurk privily for their[ own] lives.

But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one[ was] Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and[ of such as have] cattle.And his brother’s name[ was] Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain[ was] Naamah.And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.He croucheth,[ and] humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see[ it].

Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife[ to be] thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told[ you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon[ it], and require[ it].

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he[ is] a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he[ is] a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.Or[ if] he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he[ is] a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote[ him] shall surely be put to death;[ for] he[ is] a murderer: the revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing[ him] not, and cast[ it] upon him, that he die, and[ was] not his enemy, neither sought his harm:Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.So these[ things] shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person[ to cause him] to die.Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which[ is] guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death.And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye[ are]: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.
