我又看见在日光之下，跑得快的未必得奖，勇士未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，精明的未必致富，博学的未必得人赏识，因为时机和际遇左右众人。

我转眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必赛赢，勇士未必战胜，有智慧的未必得粮食，有悟性的未必得财富，明智者未必得恩惠；因为时机和机遇胜过一切。

我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。

我又看：在日光之下、賽跑未必給輕快的先跑到，戰爭未必給勇士得勝利，糧食也未必給智慧人得着，財富未必給明達人賺得到，恩寵也未必給有知識的人博得着：他們所碰到的就只是定時與機會。

我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to the skillful; for time and chance overtake them all.

I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

耶和華如此說：「智慧人不要因他的智慧誇口，勇士不要因他的力氣誇口，財主也不要因他的財富誇口；

沒有人能以智慧、聰明、謀略抵擋耶和華。馬是為打仗之日預備的；得勝卻在於耶和華。

若非主發命令，誰能說了就成呢？是禍，是福，不都出於至高者的口嗎？

他將卑微的人安置在高處，將哀痛的人舉到穩妥之地。他破壞通達人的計謀，使他們手所做的不得成就。他使有智慧的人中了自己的詭計，叫狡詐人的計謀速速落空。他們白晝遇見黑暗，午間摸索如在夜間。

快跑的無從避難，壯士無法使力，勇士也不能自救；拿弓的站立不住，腿快的不能逃脫，騎馬的也不能自救。到那日，勇士中最有膽量的，必赤身逃跑。」這是耶和華說的。

我心裏說：「神必審判義人和惡人，因為在那裏，各樣事務，一切工作，都有定時。」

他說：「猶大眾人、耶路撒冷的居民和約沙法王啊，你們要留心聽，耶和華對你們如此說：『不要因這大軍恐懼驚惶，因為勝敗不在乎你們，而是在乎神。

我知道神所做的都必存到永遠；無所增添，無所減少。神這樣做，是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。

不要容快跑的逃避，也不要容勇士逃脫；在北方幼發拉底河邊，他們絆跌仆倒。

君王不能因兵多得勝，勇士不能因力大得救。靠馬得救是枉然的，馬也不能因力大救人。

他不喜悅馬的力大，不喜愛人的腿快。耶和華喜愛敬畏他和盼望他慈愛的人。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人卻在黑暗裏行。但我知道他們都有相同的遭遇。我心裏就說：「愚昧人所遇見的，我也一樣遇見，那麼我何必更有智慧呢？」我心裏說：「這也是虛空。」

我見人因彼此嫉妒而有一切的勞碌和各樣工作的成就，這也是虛空，也是捕風。

亞希多弗見他的計謀不被接納，就備上驢，動身歸回本城，到了自己的家。他留下遺囑給他的家，就上吊死了，葬在他父親的墳墓裏。

押沙龍和以色列眾人都說：「亞基人戶篩的計謀比亞希多弗的更好！」這是因為耶和華定意破壞亞希多弗的良謀，為的是耶和華要降禍給押沙龍。

我轉而觀看日光之下所發生的一切欺壓之事。看哪，受欺壓的流淚，無人安慰；欺壓他們的有權勢，也無人安慰。

我轉而回顧智慧、狂妄和愚昧。在王以後來的人又如何呢？不過做先前所做的就是了。

不要誇口說驕傲的話，也不要口出狂妄的言語，因耶和華是有知識的神，人的行為被他衡量。勇士的弓折斷，跌倒的人以力量束腰。飽足的人作雇工求食；飢餓的人也不再飢餓。不生育的生了七個；兒女多的反倒孤獨。耶和華使人死，也使人活，使人下陰間，也使人往上升。耶和華使人貧窮，也使人富足；使人降卑，也使人升高。他從灰塵裏抬舉貧寒人，從糞堆中提拔貧窮人，使他們與貴族同坐，繼承榮耀的座位。地的柱子屬耶和華，他將世界立在其上。「他必保護他聖民的腳步，但惡人卻在黑暗中毀滅，因為人不是靠力量得勝。與耶和華相爭的，必被打碎；他必從天上打雷攻擊他們。耶和華審判地極的人，將力量賜給所立的王，高舉受膏者的角。」

我們也在他裏面得了基業；這原是那位隨己意行萬事的神照着自己的旨意所預定的，

所以，驕傲如鏈子戴在他們項上，殘暴像衣裳覆蓋在他們身上。他們的眼睛因體胖而凸出，他們的內心放任不羈。

你要記得耶和華－你的神，因為得財富的能力是他給你的，為要堅守他向你列祖起誓所立的約，像今日一樣。

你要觀看神的作為，誰能使他所彎曲的變直呢？

那時你們必再一次看出義人和惡人，事奉神和不事奉神的人有何差別。」

他安靜，誰能定罪呢？他轉臉，誰能見他呢？無論一國或一人都是如此。

地上所有的居民都算為虛無；在天上萬軍和地上居民中，他都憑自己的旨意行事。無人能攔住他的手，或問他說，你在做甚麼呢？

在那裏有洗魯雅的三個兒子：約押、亞比篩、亞撒黑。亞撒黑的腳快如野地裏的羚羊；亞撒黑追趕押尼珥，直追趕他不偏左右。押尼珥回頭說：「亞撒黑，是你嗎？」他說：「是我。」押尼珥對他說：「你轉左或轉右，去抓一個年輕人，剝去他的戰衣吧。」亞撒黑卻不肯轉開而不追趕他。押尼珥又對亞撒黑說：「轉開，不要再追我了！我何必把你擊殺在地上呢？我若殺了你，怎麼有臉見你哥哥約押呢？」亞撒黑仍不肯轉開，押尼珥就用回馬槍刺入他的肚腹，甚至槍從背後穿出，亞撒黑就仆倒在那裏，當場死了。眾人趕到亞撒黑仆倒而死的地方，就都站住。

這樣，大衛用機弦和石子勝了那非利士人，擊中了他，把他殺死；大衛手中沒有刀。
