因为世人所遭遇的与牲畜所遭遇的，都是一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，两者的气息都是一样，所以人并不胜于牲畜。一切都是虚空。

人所遇者、獸亦遇之、人與獸所遇惟一、此之死猶彼之死、同一氣之呼吸、人無所愈於獸、悉屬虛空、

世人禽獸、同一氣之呼吸、其必死無以異也、則人不遠於禽獸、而萬事悉歸諸虛矣。

人命獸命俱同、原文作人之所遇無異獸之所遇人與獸所遇惟一死亦彼此無異、皆恃呼吸之氣、如此、人無所勝於獸、皆屬於虛、

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless.

Surely what happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don’t have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

For people and animals share the same fate— both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless!

因为智慧人和愚昧人一样，没有人永远记念他们，在未来的日子里，都会被人遗忘。可叹智慧人跟愚昧人一样，终必死亡。

你使我的日子窄如手掌，我的一生在你面前如同无有；各人站得最稳的时候，也只不过是一口气。（细拉）世人来来往往只是幻影，他们忙乱也是虚空；积聚财物，却不知道谁要来收取。

求你记念我的一生多么短暂，你创造的世人是多么虚幻呢！有哪一个人能长活不死，能救自己的性命脱离阴间的权势呢？（细拉）

人死了，就化为乌有；人一气绝就不在了。海洋中的水消失，江河枯竭干涸，人也是这样一躺下去，就不再起来，直到天都没有了还不醒过来，也不能从睡眠中被唤醒。

你向它们掩面，它们就惊慌；你收回它们的气息，它们就死亡，归回尘土。

于是我转念，对日光之下我所劳碌的一切，心感绝望；因为人用智慧、知识和技能所劳碌得来的，却必须留给未曾劳碌的人为分。这也是虚空，是极大的憾事。人的一切劳碌和操心，就是他在日光之下所劳碌的，对自己有什么益处呢？其实终其一生，他的担子既痛苦又烦恼，在夜间也不能安心。这也是虚空。

我们都是必死的，像水泼在地上不能收回来一样；但神并不取去人的命，反而设法使逃亡的人不致永远离开他逃亡。

无理性的人不晓得，愚昧的人不明白这事：恶人虽好像草一样繁茂，所有作孽的人虽然兴旺，他们都要永远灭亡。

智慧人的眼目明亮，愚昧人却走在黑暗中。我也知道同一的命运要临到这两种人身上。
