I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.

I hated everything I had worked for on earth. I’ll have to leave all of it to someone who lives after me.

I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,

I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned.

I hated all my work that I labored at under the sun because I must leave it to the one who comes after me.

So I hated all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.

各人所為、無非捉影、諠譟徒勞兮、積累財貨、不知孰得兮。

我觀智慧者死、愚蠢者亡、遺業於後兮、

我賴上帝所賜之恩、猶賢工師置基、而人經營之、惟當慎如何經之營之耳、

上帝曰、無知者乎、今夜將索爾魂、則所備者誰歸、

故復諭之曰、因爾行是、不守我約、及我所諭之禮儀、我必奪爾國祚、以予爾僕。緣爾父大闢之故、爾尚生存、我不行是、惟奪爾子之國祚。亦不奪其全土、乃因我僕大闢、亦因我所選之耶路撒冷故、必遺一支派、以予爾子。

又思未生於斯世者、未見斯人之穢行、較生而復死者、尤為幸甚。

於是興工作、建屋宇、作園囿、種葡萄、栽百果、

光天之下、營營操作、何益之有。

曠觀天下之人、深可憫惜、積貯貨財、自取其害、既遭患難、貨財俱失、雖有子孫、無業可遺。

蓋我知去後、必有殘狼入爾中、不惜其群、爾中將有人起、以叛道之言、蠱惑門徒、

上帝所悅者、賜以智慧歡樂、若惡人則勞苦之、以其所積貨財、賜於善良、凡百之事、無非捕風捉影、以此益見矣。

以我觀之、上帝使人一生操作、式飲式食、安享其成、豈不甚美。

上帝使人生於斯世、悉屬虛浮、畢生操作、安享其所得、夫婦之間、必當眷愛懽娛、以至沒齒。

曰、若是、求祖遣拉撒路、往我父家、我有兄弟五人、使彼示之、免至此受苦、

耶和華兮、手援拯我、斯世害予兮、爾其免我、乃彼至今兮、反得福祜、富有兮豐亨、寖昌兮寢熾、業遺於子孫、

專心致志、窮察天下事、知上帝以斯任畀人、使竭其心思。
