He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.

“ He uncovers mysteries hidden in darkness; he brings light to the deepest gloom.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.

I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.

Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.

There is a man in your kingdom who has within him the spirit of the holy gods. During Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, this man was found to have insight, understanding, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your predecessor, the king— your predecessor King Nebuchadnezzar— made him chief over all the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and fortune tellers of Babylon.

I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the Lord, am the one who does these things.

For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.

The underworld is naked in God’s presence. The place of destruction is uncovered.

I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.

But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed.“ While Your Majesty was sleeping, you dreamed about coming events. He who reveals secrets has shown you what is going to happen.

That is what the Scriptures mean when they say,“ No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

That is why I use these parables, For they look, but they don’t really see. They hear, but they don’t really listen or understand.

“ It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied.“ But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.”

So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time— before the Lord returns. For he will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.

A third time he asked him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said,“ Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Then feed my sheep.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said,“ I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time.But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him.

Everything I prophesied has come true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future before it happens.”

God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets.

You are dressed in a robe of light. You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;

The king’s demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.”

For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me.I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

Joseph responded,“ Both of Pharaoh’s dreams mean the same thing. God is telling Pharaoh in advance what he is about to do.The seven healthy cows and the seven healthy heads of grain both represent seven years of prosperity.The seven thin, scrawny cows that came up later and the seven thin heads of grain, withered by the east wind, represent seven years of famine.“ This will happen just as I have described it, for God has revealed to Pharaoh in advance what he is about to do.

“ Who told you from the beginning that this would happen? Who predicted this, making you admit that he was right? No one said a word!

One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever.“ Listen to this dream,” he said.“ We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!”His brothers responded,“ So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it.“ Listen, I have had another dream,” he said.“ The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!”

“ Let them try to tell us what happened long ago so that we may consider the evidence. Or let them tell us what the future holds, so we can know what’s going to happen.

The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
