I’m talking like a madman— I’m a better one: with far more labors, many more imprisonments, far worse beatings, near death many times.Five times I received 39 lashes from Jews.Three times I was beaten with rods by the Romans. Once I was stoned by my enemies. Three times I was shipwrecked. I have spent a night and a day in the open sea.On frequent journeys, I faced dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my own people, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the open country, dangers on the sea, and dangers among false brothers;labor and hardship, many sleepless nights, hunger and thirst, often without food, cold, and lacking clothing.

“ Then they will hand you over for persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of My name.

“ You are blessed when they insult and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of Me.

and that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know the One I have believed in and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day.

Remember the word I spoke to you:‘ A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will also keep yours.

If you are ridiculed for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

But as God’s ministers, we commend ourselves in everything: by great endurance, by afflictions, by hardship, by difficulties,

“ I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling.They will ban you from the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service to God.They will do these things because they haven’t known the Father or Me.But I have told you these things so that when their time comes you may remember I told them to you. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.

“ And now I am on my way to Jerusalem, bound in my spirit, not knowing what I will encounter there,except that in town after town the Holy Spirit testifies to me that chains and afflictions are waiting for me.

Woe, you destroyer never destroyed, you traitor never betrayed! When you have finished destroying, you will be destroyed. When you have finished betraying, they will betray you.

For I think God has displayed us, the apostles, in last place, like men condemned to die: We have become a spectacle to the world and to angels and to men.We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless;we labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we respond graciously. Even now, we are like the world’s garbage, like the dirt everyone scrapes off their sandals.

And he has authority here from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”

I suffer for it to the point of being bound like a criminal, but God’s message is not bound.This is why I endure all things for the elect: so that they also may obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation, kingdom, and endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of God’s word and the testimony about Jesus.

along with the persecutions and sufferings that came to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all.

If they called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more the members of his household!
