復睹跛者挺然與之並立、無可置辯、命暫退。互議曰：『是二人者、何以處之？彼所行者、顯係神蹟、耶路撒冷居民未有不悉其事者、自難否認、

猶太人因懷疑其人、不信其由盲而復明也。乃召其父母而問曰：『此是爾子、即爾所謂胎瞽者乎？然則今何以能見？』父母對曰：『此乃吾子、生而盲、是則吾之所知也。至其如何得見、誰啟其目、則非吾之所知也。渠已成年、可逕詢之、本身之事、當能自陳。』

有司格於輿情、未敢加責、乃警而釋之。蓋眾睹奇行、咸尊天主、且因神蹟而獲痊者、其年已逾四十矣。

莫不驚訝自失而相語曰：『果何由而致此乎？』

眾人目擊天主宏能、莫不驚心動魄。眾方稱羨其所行一切神蹟、耶穌獨告其徒曰：

耶穌對曰：『非由其本身、亦非其父母之罪、惟欲使天主之功德、彰於其身耳。

蓋父之所行、子亦行焉。父篤愛其子、凡其所行、悉以示之；其所示者將有更大於斯者、爾將不勝駭異矣。
