They brought them before the magistrates and said,“ These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar

They brought them to the judges.“ These men are Jews,” her owners said.“ They are making trouble in our city.

“ The whole city is in an uproar because of these Jews!” they shouted to the city officials.

Bringing them before the chief magistrates, they said,“ These men are seriously disturbing our city. They are Jews

但吾儕願一聆教言、以吾所聞今之新教、固無在而不受非議也。』

眾識其為猶太人也、更同聲呼曰：『大哉依法所人之諦雅納！』如是者約二時之久。

嗚呼、爾亦不淑也已！豈不知與世為友、即與天主為仇乎？閹然媚世者、不能取悅於天主矣。

弗可閹然媚世、希俗取容；務求變化氣質、重建新心。蓋惟如此、方能體驗天主盡善盡美之聖意耳。

爾若不見容於世、應念予亦未始見容於世也。爾若屬於世、世焉有不愛其同類者乎？正唯予已拔爾於世、此世之所以不能容爾也。宜憶吾言、僕不能大乎其主、人既侮予、亦必悔爾；人守吾訓、亦必守爾之訓。
