這樣、寧示的孫子、約沙法的兒子耶戶、就陰謀反叛了約蘭。（先是約蘭和以色列眾人因為亞蘭王哈薛的緣故曾經把守着基列的拉末；後來約蘭王卻返回耶斯列去醫治他跟亞蘭王哈薛交戰時亞蘭人所給他的擊傷。）耶戶說：『若合你們的意思，那麼就不要讓人逃出城到耶斯列去報信。』於是耶戶坐車、往耶斯列去；因為約蘭正臥病在那裏。猶大王亞哈謝已經下去看望約蘭。在耶斯列有一個守望的人站在譙樓上，看見耶戶的洶湧軍隊一直地來，就說：『我看見一隊洶湧的軍兵。』約蘭說：『領一個騎兵，打發他去迎接他們，說：「平安麼？」』騎馬的就去迎接耶戶，說：『王這麼問說：「平安麼？」』耶戶說：『平安不平安、與你何干？你轉來跟着我吧！』守望人又報告說：『使者到了他們那裏，卻沒有回來。』王又打發第二個騎馬的去；這人到了他們那裏，說：『王這麼問說：「平安麼？」耶戶說：『平安不平安、與你何干？你轉來跟着我吧！』守望人又報告說：『他到了他們那裏，也沒有回來。那趕車的手法很像寧示的孫子耶戶的趕法，趕得很兇猛。』約蘭吩咐說：『套車』；人就給他套車。以色列王約蘭和猶大王亞哈謝、各坐自己的車、出去迎接耶戶，就在耶斯列人拿伯那段田地遇見了他。約蘭一見耶戶、就說：『耶戶啊，平安麼？』耶戶說：『甚麼呀？你母親耶洗別的淫行和邪術這麼多、還有平安麼？』約蘭就旋轉車手而逃跑，對亞哈謝說：『亞哈謝啊，反了！』耶戶用滿了手力而開弓，射中了約蘭兩肩膀之間；箭從心窩穿出，約蘭就屈身、仆倒在車上。

如今呢、耶路撒冷的居民和猶大人哪，在我和我的葡萄園之間斷定是非吧！

永恆主對何西阿說：『給他起名叫耶斯列，因為再過片時、我必向耶戶家追討在耶斯列殺人流血的罪，也必使以色列家的國滅絕。

看哪，我在這裏；你們儘管當着永恆主和他所膏立者面前、作證控訴我：我取過誰的牛？取過誰的驢？我欺壓過誰，壓制過誰？我從誰手裏取過贖金，以致蒙蔽眼睛？作證控訴我吧，我要償還。』
