惟其心頑、迄今讀舊約時、斯帕猶存、夫其帕因基督而廢矣、

兄弟乎、吾深恐爾等之自以為智、故不欲爾等之昧於此中微妙也。蓋部分義塞人之所以成為冥頑不靈者、乃有待乎異邦人之圓滿歸化。

懇求吾主耶穌基督之天主、光榮之父、賜爾明智、啟爾妙慧、俾爾洞識真主；開爾靈眼、俾明聖召之希望無窮、諸聖光榮嗣業之蘊藏無限、及天主於信徒所施神力之廣大無邊也。蓋此神力、天主實已先施於基督之身、起之於死中、升之於諸天、位之於己右、

夫天主昔嘗作光於黑暗之中矣、今乃照耀於吾人之心中、俾吾人得藉基督耶穌之聖容、而洞識天主之光榮。

推雅推喇婦呂底亞者、市布為業、夙敬天主、既聆大道、主復啟迪其衷、命於葆樂所言、悉心領受。

耶穌曰：『予臨斯世、實為黜陟、欲使不見者得見、而自以為明者轉成瞽盲。』適有法利塞人在側、聞之、曰：『吾儕豈亦盲者？』耶穌曰：『苟為盲者、將無罪矣！今爾自以為有見、罪在其中矣！』

耶穌又謂眾曰：『予乃世之光、從予者不行黑暗中、必具生命之光。』

誦律法及先知書訓；司會者使人請曰：『兄弟如有勉眾之詞、願聞其說。』

耶穌曰：『福哉若納子西門：蓋以此啟汝者、非屬血氣肉情；在天吾父、實牖爾衷。

『主已蒙其目、主已頑其心、恐其目有見、恐其心有靈、恐其即回頭、令吾全其生。』

耶穌謂之曰：『愚人哉！何爾心之冥頑、而不信歷來先知之所言乎？基督不當先受苦難、而躋於光榮乎？』於是始自摩西以至歷代先知、凡經中之有關於己者、悉為詳釋。

耶穌曰：『天國之蘊奧、賜爾知之、不賜若輩；

耶穌又謂諸徒曰：『曩日與爾同處、予曾明言、摩西律先知書與聖詠中所載予事、悉當應驗。』遂啟其明悟、使領會經旨。復曰：『依諸經所載、基督固當受難、第三日自死者中復活、

然則如何？曰：義塞之所求、未之得也、其中蒙恩者得之、而其餘則已成麻木不仁之徒矣。經云：『天主已使其冥頑不靈、有目而不能見、有耳而不能聞、以迄於今；』此之謂也。大維亦曰：『願其筵席之化作羅穽兮、自食其所作之孽。願其目之昏矇而不見兮、背常曲而不直。』

耶穌集十二門徒、而告之曰：『爾其識之！吾儕上耶路撒冷、凡先知所紀當臨於人子之事、悉將見驗。渠將被付於外邦人、受垢被辱、受唾被撻、乃至受死、惟第三日復活。』門徒弗悟、蓋當時厥心、猶有所蒙故但聞其言、而不識其蘊也。

予之來、所以為世之光、庶幾信予者不復滯留於黑暗之中。

目不正則身陷晦冥。是故心光若晦、則晦之為晦、又將何如！

若輩視而不見、聽而不聞、冥頑不悟、故以譬喻訓之。意灑雅之預言、實應於若輩之身矣。其言曰：斯民之心、已成頑梗；厥耳重聽、厥目自閉、若恐其目之有見、耳之有聞、心之有悟、幡然回頭、而獲救於我也。」

願其筵席之化為羅網兮。俾紛紛然而自罹。

其言曰：「往告斯民曰、爾聽而不悟、視而不見；蓋斯民之心、已冥頑不靈、厥耳不聰、厥目不明、一若惟恐其目之有見、耳之有聞、心之有悟、幡然回頭而蒙救於予也！」

不寧惟是、使吾儕足以任新約之役者、亦惟天主而已。此約也、非本乎文字、乃本乎聖神。蓋文字乃肅殺之具、而聖神則生命之源也。
