如果別人能從你們那裡分享這權利，我們不是更能分享嗎？然而，我們並沒有用過這權利，反而凡事包容，免得給基督的福音帶來阻礙。

難道只有我和巴拿巴沒有不做工的權利嗎？

我降卑自己，好使你們被高舉，因為我把神的福音無償地傳給你們，難道我這樣就犯了罪嗎？我「掠奪了」別的教會，拿了他們的工價來服事你們。我在你們那裡有缺乏的時候，也沒有成為任何人的負擔，因為從馬其頓省來的弟兄們補足了我的缺乏。在一切事上我都留意，不讓自己成為你們的負擔，將來也會留意。

看哪，這是我第三次預備好到你們那裡去，而且我不會成為你們的負擔，因為我想要的不是你們的東西，而是你們自己。本來，不應該是兒女為父母積蓄財富，而是父母為兒女積蓄財富。

但是，這些權利我一個也沒有用過。我寫這些並不是要人這樣對待我，因為我寧願死，也不願意任何人使我所誇耀的落了空。原來，就算我傳福音，也沒有可誇耀的，因為傳福音的需要催逼著我；我如果不傳福音，我就有禍了；如果我自願做這事，就有報償；如果我不自願，這任務也已經委託給我了。那麼，我的報償到底是什麼呢？就是：我傳福音的時候，能免費地提供福音，好使我不會充分利用在福音工作上屬自己的權利。
