And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger.They abandoned the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth.

Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem,“ Before one altar you shall worship, and on it you shall burn your sacrifices”?

For they also built for themselves high places and pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree,

while their children remember their altars and their Asherim, beside every green tree and on the high hills,

And they shall be spread before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and served, which they have gone after, and which they have sought and worshiped. And they shall not be gathered or buried. They shall be as dung on the surface of the ground.

But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:“‘ Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices, during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made metal images for the Baals,and he made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.
