Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David, the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for him and his descendants forever.

But the Lord didn’t want to destroy the royal family of David. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with him. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for David and his children after him forever.

Yet the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.

But the Lord did not want to destroy David’s dynasty, for he had made a covenant with David and promised that his descendants would continue to rule, shining like a lamp forever.

but for the sake of the covenant the LORD had made with David, he was unwilling to destroy the house of David since the LORD had promised to give a lamp to David and to his sons forever.

以一支派賜其子、使我僕大衛於所選歸我名之耶路撒冷邑、於我前歷世有光、光或作明燈

迨爾年壽已滿、與爾列祖同寢、我必使爾所出之苗裔、所出之苗裔或作所生之子繼爾位、我亦必鞏固其國、彼將為我名建殿、我必堅定其國位、永久不廢、我必為其父、彼必為我之子、彼若犯罪、我必責之、如人之責其子然、原文作我則以人之杖以人之責責之但我之仁慈、仁慈或作恩寵仍不離之、如曾離掃羅、即我於爾前所棄者、爾家與爾國必穩立於我前、於我前原文作於爾前至於永遠、爾國位必堅定至於永遠、拿單循此諸言、循此默示、以告大衛、

亦不奪全國、乃因我僕大衛、亦因我所選之耶路撒冷故、尚留一支派以予爾子、○

為我儕挺生大能之救主、大能之救主原文作拯救之角於其僕大衛家、

以照居幽暗及死地陰翳之人、又引我履平康之道、○

我儕盍往猶大、圍困其城、破而取之、在其中立他比勒子為王、主天主如是云、此謀必不立、必不成、

我時常向之施恩、與其立約、永無變更、使其後裔世世長存、使其國位與天同久、其子孫若違背我訓、不依我法度而行、廢棄我典章、不遵守我命令、我即以杖責其罪愆、以梃罰其過犯、然我恩澤仍不離之、我既應許、決不失信、不廢棄我所立之約、不更改我口中之言、

在彼我以權勢賜大衛、原文作在彼我使角為大衛而萌為我所立之受膏王、特設明燈、必使彼之敵人蒙羞抱愧、使彼首戴冠冕、發顯榮光、

主如是云、我所立晝夜之約、爾若能廢、使晝夜失時、則我與我僕大衛所立之約亦可廢、使無後嗣坐其位為王、我與事我之利未人、及祭司所立之約亦可廢、天之眾星不可數、海濱塵沙不可量、我僕大衛之裔、及奉事我之利未人、我必使之蕃衍亦若是、主有言諭耶利米曰、斯民所言、爾不知乎、彼曰、昔主所選之二族、今已棄之、彼如是藐視我民、目中視之不復為邦國、主如是云、我所立晝夜之約、所定天地之例、若能爽能廢、則我亦遐棄雅各之苗裔與我僕大衛、不復使大衛之裔、治理亞伯拉罕以撒雅各之子孫、蓋我必使其被擄者旋歸、且施之以矜恤、

廢棄與主之僕所立之約、將其冠冕委置塵埃、

我家於天主前、豈非若是、天主與我立約、於諸事堅定穩固、恆久不廢、一切救我之事、與我一切所願者、主豈不成之乎、
