保罗来到特庇，然后又到路司得。那里有个门徒名叫提摩太，母亲是信主的犹太人，父亲是希腊人。路司得和以哥念的弟兄姊妹都称赞提摩太。保罗打算带提摩太去传福音。因为当地的犹太人都知道提摩太的父亲是希腊人，保罗就给提摩太行了割礼。

我之所以写这些事，并非是叫你们羞愧，而是像劝诫我亲爱的儿女一样劝诫你们。虽然有千万老师将基督的事教导你们，但父亲并不多，因为我借着福音在基督耶稣里成为你们的父亲。所以，我劝你们效法我。正因如此，我派了提摩太去你们那里。他在主里忠心耿耿，是我所爱的孩子。他会提醒你们我在基督里如何行事为人，在各地、各教会如何教导人。

如果主耶稣许可，我希望尽快派提摩太去你们那里，我好知道你们的近况，心里得到安慰。因为没有人像他那样跟我一同真正关心你们的事。别人都只顾自己的事，并不关心耶稣基督的事。但你们知道提摩太的为人，我与他情同父子，一起事奉和传扬福音。

我问候所有住在罗马、上帝所爱、蒙召做圣徒的人。愿我们的父上帝和主耶稣基督赐给你们恩典和平安！

派提摩太去你们那里。他在传扬基督福音的事工上是我们的弟兄、上帝的同工。他去是要鼓励你们，使你们信心坚定，

我儿啊！你要靠着基督耶稣的恩典刚强起来。

我儿提摩太啊，我依照从前有关你的预言，把这命令托付给你，好使你借此打美好的仗。

你们蒙拣选是按照父上帝预先定好的旨意，借着圣灵得以圣洁，好顺服耶稣基督，并靠祂的血得到洁净。愿上帝赐给你们丰丰富富的恩典和平安！
