Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance.

But when they said,“ Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.

“ I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.

You know that it does not rain at this time of the year during the wheat harvest. I will ask the Lord to send thunder and rain today. Then you will realize how wicked you have been in asking the Lord for a king!”

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what to do with him.One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

When I heard this, I tore my cloak and my shirt, pulled hair from my head and beard, and sat down utterly shocked.Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel came and sat with me because of this outrage committed by the returned exiles. And I sat there utterly appalled until the time of the evening sacrifice.At the time of the sacrifice, I stood up from where I had sat in mourning with my clothes torn. I fell to my knees and lifted my hands to the Lord my God.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them!

But now, if you will only forgive their sin— but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!”

But Moses and Aaron fell face down on the ground.“ O God,” they pleaded,“ you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Must you be angry with all the people when only one man sins?”

Then Moses became very angry and said to the Lord,“ Do not accept their grain offerings! I have not taken so much as a donkey from them, and I have never hurt a single one of them.”

And Moses said to Aaron,“ Quick, take an incense burner and place burning coals on it from the altar. Lay incense on it, and carry it out among the people to purify them and make them right with the Lord. The Lord’s anger is blazing against them— the plague has already begun.”

Finally, he turned to Aaron and demanded,“ What did these people do to you to make you bring such terrible sin upon them?”
