對於童貞者、吾未承主諭、惟吾既飽受主恩、自當忠實相告。吾鑒於世難方殷、竊謂能保守獨身、莫善焉。

然吾作此論、乃係體諒人情、非命令也。

吾主之寬裕容忍、正為吾人之福、當作如是觀也。關於此點、我親愛之兄弟葆樂、亦已按其所賦之智慧、寓書於爾矣。渠於他書中、亦多論及此事、書中間有深奧難解之語、而無知無識之輩、乃予以曲解、是猶曲解他經、亦惟自取淪喪而已矣。

予非自由之人乎？予非宗徒乎？予豈未見吾主耶穌基督乎？爾曹之依主也、又非予之功績乎？即於他人為非宗徒、於爾曹予固宗徒也。蓋爾曹之歸主、即吾為宗徒之佐證、亦即吾所持以答人之質問者也。

至於來書所提各節、吾意以為如能恆抱獨身、不接觸任何女性、尚矣。

故凡倒行逆施者、非逆於人、乃逆於賜爾聖神之天主也。

吾作是語、為爾之益、不欲納爾於陷穽之中、乃欲導爾於康莊之路；庶得無阻無礙、從容事主耳。
