Psalm 135
The Lord Is Great
1Hallelujah!
Praise the name of the Lord.
2who stand in the house of the Lord,
4For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
5For I know that the Lord is great;
6The Lord does whatever he pleases
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all the depths.135:6 Ps 115:3; Is 45:7; Lm 3:37–38; Dn 4:35
7He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain
and brings the wind from his storehouses.135:7 Jb 28:25–26; Jr 10:13; 51:16
8He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
9He sent signs and wonders against you, Egypt,
10He struck down many nations
11Sihon king of the Amorites,
Og king of Bashan,
and all the kings of Canaan.135:11 Nm 21:21–35
12He gave their land as an inheritance,
13Lord, your name endures forever,
your reputation, Lord,
14For the Lord will vindicate his people
15The idols of the nations are of silver and gold,
eyes, but cannot see.
17They have ears but cannot hear;
indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.135:16–17 Is 46:7
18Those who make them are just like them,
as are all who trust in them.135:15–18 Ps 115:4–11
20House of Levi, bless the Lord!
he dwells in Jerusalem.135:21 Ps 132:13–14
