Judgment on Ammon
149:1 ch. 25:21; [Ezek. 21:28; 25:2] Concerning the Ammonites.
Thus says the Lord:

“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then has 49:1 [1 Kgs. 11:5, 33; 2 Kgs. 23:13] Milcom49:1 Or their king; also verse 349:1 [Amos 1:13]dispossessed Gad,
and his people settled in its cities?
2Therefore, behold, the days are coming,
declares the Lord,
when I will cause 49:2 ch. 4:19the battle cry to be heard
against 49:2 Ezek. 21:20; 25:5; Amos 1:14Rabbah of the Ammonites;
it shall become a desolate 49:2 ch. 30:18mound,
and its villages shall be burned with fire;
then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him,
says the Lord.

3“Wail, O 49:3 ch. 48:2Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste!
Cry out, O daughters of 49:3 [See ver. 2above] Rabbah!
49:3 ch. 48:37; See ch. 4:8Put on sackcloth,
lament, and run to and fro among the hedges!
For 49:3 [1 Kgs. 11:5, 33; 2 Kgs. 23:13] Milcom shall go into exile,
49:3 ch. 48:7with his priests and his officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,49:4 Hebrew boast of your valleys, your valley flows
49:4 ch. 3:14O faithless daughter,
49:4 ch. 48:7who trusted in her treasures, saying,
‘Who will come against me?’
5Behold, 49:5 [ch. 48:43]I will bring terror upon you,
declares the Lord God of hosts,
from all who are around you,
and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him,
with none to gather the fugitives.

6“But 49:6 [ver. 39; ch. 48:47]afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”
Judgment on Edom
7Concerning 49:7 ch. 25:21; Isa. 34:5; Amos 1:11; Obad. 1; [Mal. 1:2]; See Ezek. 25:12-14Edom.
Thus says the Lord of hosts:

49:7 ver. 20; Obad. 9“Is wisdom no more in 49:7 ver. 20; Obad. 9Teman?
49:7 [Isa. 19:11, 12]Has counsel perished from the prudent?
49:7 [Isa. 19:11, 12]Has their wisdom vanished?
849:8 ver. 30Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of 49:8 ch. 25:23; Gen. 25:3Dedan!
For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,
49:8 ch. 50:27, 31; [ch. 46:21; 50:27]the time when I punish him.
949:9 Obad. 5, 6If grape gatherers came to you,
would they not leave 49:9 [Judg. 8:2]gleanings?
49:9 Obad. 5, 6If thieves came by night,
would they not destroy only enough for themselves?
1049:10 Mal. 1:3But I have stripped Esau bare;
49:10 [See ver. 9above] I have uncovered his hiding places,
and he is not able to conceal himself.
His children are destroyed, and his brothers,
and his neighbors; and 49:10 ch. 31:15; Isa. 17:14he is no more.
1149:11 [Ps. 10:14, 18; 68:5]Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive;
49:11 [Ps. 10:14, 18; 68:5]and let your widows trust in me.”

12For thus says the Lord: 49:12 ch. 25:28; [Obad. 16] “If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, 49:12 ch. 25:29will you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you must drink.
1349:13 See ch. 22:5For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that 49:13 ver. 22; See ch. 48:24Bozrah shall become 49:13 See ch. 24:9a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.”

1449:14 See Obad. 1-4I have heard a message from the Lord,
and an envoy has been sent among the nations:
49:14 [Isa. 13:4]“Gather yourselves together and come against her,
and rise up for battle!
15For behold, I will make you small among the nations,
despised among mankind.
16The horror you inspire has deceived you,
and the pride of your heart,
you who live in the clefts of the rock,49:16 Or of Sela
who hold the height of the hill.
Though you 49:16 [ch. 48:28]make your nest as high as the eagle’s,
I will bring you down from there,
declares the Lord.

1749:17 Ezek. 35:3, 7, 9“Edom shall become a horror. 49:17 [ch. 50:13]Everyone who passes by it will be horrified 49:17 [ch. 50:13]and will hiss because of all its disasters.
1849:18 See Isa. 13:19As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their 49:18 [Deut. 29:23] neighboring cities were overthrown, says the Lord, 49:18 ver. 33no man shall dwell there, 49:18 ver. 33no man shall sojourn in her.
1949:19 For ver. 19-21, see ch. 50:44-46Behold, 49:19 See ch. 4:7like a lion coming up from 49:19 See ch. 12:5the jungle of the Jordan against a perennial pasture, I will suddenly make him49:19 Septuagint, Syriac them run away from her. And I will appoint over her whomever I choose. 49:19 See ch. 10:6For who is like me? 49:19 Job 9:19Who will summon me? 49:19 [ch. 30:21]What shepherd can stand before me?
20Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against 49:20 Ezek. 35:3, 7, 9Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of 49:20 See ver. 7Teman: 49:20 ch. 50:45Even the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away. Surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate.
21At the sound of their fall 49:21 ch. 8:16; 50:46; [Ezek. 26:15]the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea.
22Behold, 49:22 See ch. 48:40one shall mount up and fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against 49:22 ver. 13Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom shall be in that day like the heart 49:22 ver. 24; See ch. 6:24of a woman in her birth pains.”
Judgment on Damascus
23Concerning 49:23 Isa. 17:1; Amos 1:3Damascus:

49:23 1 Kgs. 8:65; Zech. 9:2“Hamath and 49:23 2 Kgs. 18:34Arpad are confounded,
for they have heard bad news;
they melt in fear,
49:23 Zech. 9:4they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.
2449:24 [See ver. 23above] Damascus has become feeble, 49:24 [ch. 46:5] she turned to flee,
and panic seized her;
anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her,
as 49:24 [See ver. 22above]of a woman in labor.
25How is 49:25 [ch. 33:9]the famous city not forsaken,
the city of my joy?
2649:26 ch. 50:30Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares,
and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day,
declares the Lord of hosts.
27And 49:27 See ch. 17:27I will kindle a fire in the wall of 49:27 [See ver. 23above] Damascus,
and it shall devour the strongholds of 49:27 1 Kgs. 15:18; 20:1; 2 Kgs. 6:24; 8:7; 13:3Ben-hadad.”
Judgment on Kedar and Hazor
28Concerning 49:28 Isa. 21:16; 60:7Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck down.

Thus says the Lord:
49:28 ver. 14, 31“Rise up, advance against 49:28 Isa. 21:16; 60:7Kedar!
Destroy 49:28 Isa. 11:14; Ezek. 25:4, 10; See Judg. 6:3the people of the east!
2949:29 Ps. 120:5; Song 1:5Their tents and their flocks shall be taken,
their 49:29 Ps. 120:5; Song 1:5curtains and all their goods;
their camels shall be led away from them,
and men shall cry to them: 49:29 See ch. 6:25‘Terror on every side!’
3049:30 ver. 8Flee, wander far away, dwell in the depths,
O inhabitants of Hazor!
declares the Lord.
For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
has made a plan against you
and formed a purpose against you.

3149:31 [See ver. 28above] “Rise up, advance against a nation 49:31 Job 16:12at ease,
49:31 Ezek. 38:8, 11that dwells securely,
declares the Lord,
49:31 Ezek. 38:8, 11that has no gates or bars,
that dwells alone.
3249:32 [Ezek. 38:12] Their camels shall become plunder,
their herds of livestock a spoil.
49:32 ver. 36I will scatter to every wind
49:32 See ch. 9:26those who cut the corners of their hair,
and I will bring their calamity
from every side of them,
declares the Lord.
33Hazor shall become 49:33 See ch. 9:11a haunt of jackals,
an everlasting waste;
49:33 ver. 18no man shall dwell there;
49:33 ver. 18no man shall sojourn in her.”
Judgment on Elam
34The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning 49:34 ch. 25:25; Gen. 14:1; Isa. 11:11; 21:2; Ezek. 32:24; Dan. 8:2Elam, in the beginning of the reign of 49:34 2 Kgs. 24:17, 18Zedekiah king of Judah.
35Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break 49:35 Isa. 22:6the bow of 49:35 [See ver. 34above]Elam, the mainstay of their might.
36And I will bring upon 49:36 [See ver. 34above]Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of 49:36 [See ver. 34above]Elam shall not come.
37I will 49:37 [ch. 1:17] terrify 49:37 [See ver. 34above] Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life. I will bring disaster upon them, 49:37 See ch. 12:13my fierce anger, declares the Lord. 49:37 See ch. 9:16I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them,
38and I will set my throne in 49:38 [See ver. 34above]Elam and destroy their king and officials, declares the Lord.
39“But in the latter days 49:39 [ch. 48:47] I will restore the fortunes of 49:39 [See ver. 34above]Elam, declares the Lord.”
