David and Zion Chosen
A song of ascents.

Lord, remember David
and all the hardships he endured,132:1 2Sm 16:12
2and how he swore an oath to the Lord,
3“I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4I will not allow my eyes to sleep
or my eyelids to slumber132:3–4 Pr 6:4
5until I find a place for the Lord,
we found it in the fields of Jaar.132:6 = Kiriath-jearim132:6 1Sm 7:1
7Let’s go to his dwelling place;
8Rise up, Lord, come to your resting place,
9May your priests be clothed with righteousness,
10For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.132:10 = the king132:10 2Ch 6:42
11The Lord swore an oath to David,
a promise he will not abandon:
“I will set one of your offspring132:11 Lit set the fruit of your belly
on your throne.132:11 2Sm 7:12–16; Ps 89:3; Ac 2:30
12If your sons keep my covenant
and my decrees that I will teach them,
13For the Lord has chosen Zion;
14“This is my resting place forever;
I will make my home here
because I have desired it.132:14 Mt 23:21
15I will abundantly bless its food;
16I will clothe its priests with salvation,
and its faithful people will shout for joy.132:16 2Ch 6:41
I have prepared a lamp132:17 Or dominion for my anointed one.132:17 1Kg 11:36
but the crown he wears132:18 Lit but on him his crown will be glorious.”132:18 Ps 21:3
