Isaiah16

116:1 2 Kgs. 3:4Send the lamb to the ruler of the land,
from 16:1 ch. 42:11; 2 Kgs. 14:7Sela, by way of the desert,
to the mount of the daughter of Zion.
2Like fleeing birds,
like a scattered nest,
so are the daughters of Moab
at 16:2 Judg. 11:18the fords of the Arnon.

3“Give counsel;
grant justice;
16:3 [1 Kgs. 18:4]make your shade like night
at the height of noon;
shelter the outcasts;
do not reveal the fugitive;
4let 16:4 1 Sam. 22:3the outcasts of Moab
sojourn among you;
be a shelter to them16:4 Some Hebrew manuscripts, Septuagint, Syriac; Masoretic Text let my outcasts sojourn among you; as for Moab, be a shelter to them
from the destroyer.
When the oppressor is no more,
and destruction has ceased,
and he who tramples underfoot has vanished from the land,
516:5 ch. 32:1, 2; Dan. 7:14, 27; Mic. 4:7; Luke 1:33then a throne will be established in steadfast love,
and on it will sit in faithfulness
in the tent of David
one who judges and seeks justice
and is swift to do righteousness.”

616:6 Jer. 48:29; Zeph. 2:10We have heard of the pride of Moab—
how proud he is!—
16:6 Judg. 3:14; 2 Kgs. 13:20; [2 Chr. 20:1]of his arrogance, his pride, and his insolence;
in his idle boasting he is not right.
7Therefore let Moab wail for Moab,
16:7 ch. 15:3let everyone wail.
Mourn, utterly stricken,
for the 16:7 2 Sam. 6:19; [ver. 9] raisin cakes of 16:7 2 Kgs. 3:25; [ch. 15:1]Kir-hareseth.

8For the fields of Heshbon languish,
and 16:8 Jer. 48:32the vine of Sibmah;
the lords of the nations
have struck down its branches,
which reached to Jazer
and strayed to the desert;
its shoots spread abroad
and passed over the sea.
9Therefore 16:9 [ch. 15:5] I weep with 16:9 [See ver. 8above] the weeping of Jazer
for the vine of Sibmah;
I drench you with my tears,
O Heshbon and Elealeh;
for over 16:9 [ver. 7]your summer fruit and your harvest
the shout has ceased.
1016:10 Jer. 48:33And joy and gladness are taken away from 16:10 [ch. 9:3] the fruitful field,
and in the vineyards no 16:10 [Judg. 9:27] songs are sung,
no cheers are raised;
no 16:10 ch. 63:3; Jer. 25:30treader treads out wine 16:10 ch. 5:2in the presses;
I have put an end to the shouting.
11Therefore 16:11 ch. 15:5; Jer. 48:36my inner parts moan like a lyre for Moab,
and my inmost self for Kir-hareseth.

12And when Moab presents himself, when 16:12 [1 Kgs. 18:29] he wearies himself on 16:12 ch. 15:2; [Num. 22:41; 23:14, 28]the high place, when he comes to his sanctuary to pray, he will not prevail.
13This is the word that the Lord spoke concerning Moab 16:13 See Amos 2:1-3in the past.
14But now the Lord has spoken, saying, “In three years, 16:14 ch. 21:16like the years of a hired worker, the glory of Moab will be brought into contempt, in spite of all his great multitude, and those who remain will be 16:14 [ch. 10:22]very few and feeble.”
