Job37

Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty
1“At this also my heart trembles
and leaps out of its place.
2Keep listening to the thunder of his voice
and the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
3Under the whole heaven he lets it go,
and his 37:3 ch. 36:30, 32lightning to the 37:3 ch. 38:13; [Isa. 11:12; Ezek. 7:2]corners of the earth.
4After it 37:4 ch. 40:9; Ps. 68:33; See Ps. 29:3-9his voice roars;
37:4 Ps. 18:13he thunders with his majestic voice,
and he does not restrain the lightnings37:4 Hebrew them when his voice is heard.
5God thunders wondrously with his voice;
he does 37:5 See ch. 5:9great things that we cannot 37:5 ch. 36:26comprehend.
6For to 37:6 Ps. 147:16, 17the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’
likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour.
7He 37:7 Dan. 12:9; [ch. 14:17] seals up the hand of every man,
that all men whom he made may 37:7 Ps. 109:27know it.
8Then the beasts go into their 37:8 ch. 38:40lairs,
and remain in their 37:8 Ps. 104:22dens.
9From 37:9 ch. 9:9its chamber 37:9 Isa. 21:1; [ch. 1:19] comes the whirlwind,
and 37:9 Ps. 147:17cold from the scattering winds.
10By the breath of God 37:10 ch. 38:29, 30; Ps. 147:17ice is given,
and 37:10 [ch. 36:16]the broad waters are frozen fast.
11He loads the thick cloud with moisture;
the clouds scatter his lightning.
12They 37:12 Gen. 3:24turn around and around by his 37:12 Ps. 148:8guidance,
37:12 Ps. 148:8to accomplish all that he commands them
on the face of 37:12 [Prov. 8:31]the habitable world.
13Whether for 37:13 Ex. 9:18, 23; 1 Sam. 12:18, 19; Ezra 10:9; [ch. 36:31; 38:22, 23] correction or for his 37:13 ch. 38:26, 27land
or for 37:13 1 Kgs. 18:45love, he causes it to happen.

14“Hear this, O Job;
stop and 37:14 [Ps. 111:2]consider the wondrous works of God.
15Do you know how God lays his command upon them
and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine?
16Do you know the balancings37:16 Or hoverings of the clouds,
the wondrous works of him who is 37:16 ch. 36:4; [1 Sam. 2:3]perfect in knowledge,
17you whose garments are hot
when the earth is still because of the south wind?
18Can you, like him, 37:18 Isa. 42:5; 44:24; [Gen. 1:6] spread out the skies,
hard as a cast metal 37:18 [Ex. 38:8]mirror?
19Teach us what we shall say to him;
we cannot draw up our case because of 37:19 Isa. 60:2; [Eph. 4:18]darkness.
20Shall it be told him that I would speak?
Did a man ever wish that he would be swallowed up?

21“And now no one looks on the light
when it is bright in the skies,
when the wind has passed and cleared them.
22Out of the north comes golden splendor;
God is clothed with 37:22 [Ps. 104:1]awesome majesty.
23The Almighty—we 37:23 1 Tim. 6:16cannot find him;
he is 37:23 ch. 36:5great in power;
37:23 Ps. 99:4justice and abundant righteousness he will not 37:23 Lam. 3:33violate.
24Therefore men 37:24 Ps. 130:4; [Matt. 10:28] fear him;
he does not regard any who are 37:24 [Isa. 5:21; Matt. 11:25; 1 Cor. 1:26]wise in their own conceit.”37:24 Hebrew in heart
