He will judge the poor of the people. He will save the children of the needy, and will break the oppressor in pieces.

They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.

Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They don’t defend the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.In his day you shall give him his wages, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor and sets his heart on it; lest he cry against you to Yahweh, and it be sin to you.The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.You shall not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow’s clothing in pledge;but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.

a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow.”

Therefore, because you trample on the poor, and take taxes from him of wheat: You have built houses of cut stone, but you will not dwell in them. You have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink their wine.For I know how many your offenses, and how great are your sins— you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn away the needy in the courts.

‘ Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.’ All the people shall say,‘ Amen.’

Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.

Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands,“ Bring us drinks!”

In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

I said,“ Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn’t it for you to know justice?You who hate the good, and love the evil; who tear off their skin, and their flesh from off their bones;who also eat the flesh of my people, and peel their skin from off them, and break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as meat within the cauldron.Then they will cry to Yahweh, but he will not answer them. Yes, he will hide his face from them at that time, because they made their deeds evil.”

“ You shall not oppress an alien, for you know the heart of an alien, since you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

“ You shall not wrong an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.“ You shall not take advantage of any widow or fatherless child.If you take advantage of them at all, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry;and my wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbor, and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate,” says Yahweh.

In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

Don’t devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you.

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor extortionists, will inherit God’s Kingdom.

Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.

But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter. I didn’t know that they had devised plans against me, saying,“ Let’s destroy the tree with its fruit, and let’s cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.”But, Yahweh of Armies, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them; for to you I have revealed my cause.

Then they said,“ Come! Let’s devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law won’t perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let’s strike him with the tongue, and let’s not give heed to any of his words.”

“ Should you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.He judged the cause of the poor and needy; so it was well, then. Wasn’t this to know me?” says Yahweh.But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness, for shedding innocent blood, for oppression, and for doing violence.”

He plots iniquity on his bed. He sets himself in a way that is not good. He doesn’t abhor evil.
