It was revoked on that day, and so the oppressed of the flock who were watching me knew it was the word of the Lord.

It happened that day. The sheep that had been treated badly were watching me. They knew it was the Lord’ s message.

So it was annulled on that day, and the sheep traders, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the Lord.

That was the end of my covenant with them. The suffering flock was watching me, and they knew that the Lord was speaking through my actions.

So it was broken on that day, and so the afflicted of the flock who were watching me realized that it was the word of the Lord.

So it was broken on that day. Thus the poor of the flock, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the Lord.

And it was broken in that day; and thus the poor of the flock that gave heed unto me knew that it was the word of Jehovah.

I will also remember my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.For the land abandoned by them will make up for its Sabbaths by lying desolate without the people, while they make amends for their iniquity, because they rejected my ordinances and abhorred my statutes.Yet in spite of this, while they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or abhor them so as to destroy them and break my covenant with them, since I am the LORD their God.For their sake I will remember the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations to be their God; I am the LORD.”These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws the LORD established between himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.

but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.

And when many troubles and afflictions come to them, this song will testify against them, because their descendants will not have forgotten it. For I know what they are prone to do, even before I bring them into the land I swore to give them.”

For I know that after my death you will become completely corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. Disaster will come to you in the future, because you will do what is evil in the LORD’s sight, angering him with what your hands have made.”

What answer will be given to the messengers from that nation? The LORD has founded Zion, and his oppressed people find refuge in her.

but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people were captivated by what they heard.

They have provoked my jealousy with what is not a god; they have enraged me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with what is not a people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation.For fire has been kindled because of my anger and burns to the depths of Sheol; it devours the land and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains.“ I will pile disasters on them; I will use up my arrows against them.They will be weak from hunger, ravaged by pestilence and bitter plague; I will unleash on them wild beasts with fangs, as well as venomous snakes that slither in the dust.Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, there will be terror; the young man and the young woman will be killed, the infant and the gray-haired man.“ I would have said: I will cut them to pieces and blot out the memory of them from mankind,if I had not feared provocation from the enemy, or feared that these foes might misunderstand and say,‘ Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn’t the LORD who did all this.’”Israel is a nation lacking sense with no understanding at all.If only they were wise, they would comprehend this; they would understand their fate.How could one pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the LORD had given them up?But their“ rock” is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede.For their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter.Their wine is serpents’ venom, the deadly poison of cobras.“ Is it not stored up with me, sealed up in my vaults?Vengeance and retribution belong to me. In time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly.”The LORD will indeed vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees that their strength is gone and no one is left— slave or free.He will say,“ Where are their gods, the‘ rock’ they found refuge in?Who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let it be a shelter for you.See now that I alone am he; there is no God but me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal. No one can rescue anyone from my power.I raise my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever,when I sharpen my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold of judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood while my sword devours flesh— the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”

And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”Then he led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.And while he was blessing them, he left them and was carried up into heaven.After worshiping him, they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.And they were continually in the temple praising God.

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail over the miseries that are coming on you.Your wealth has rotted and your clothes are moth-eaten.Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.Look! The pay that you withheld from the workers who mowed your fields cries out, and the outcry of the harvesters has reached the ears of the Lord of Armies.You have lived luxuriously on the earth and have indulged yourselves. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous, who does not resist you.

I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will wait for him.

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the person who seeks him.It is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD.

“ Therefore, from among the men who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—beginning from the baptism of John until the day he was taken up from us— from among these, it is necessary that one become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

The LORD will bring a nation from far away, from the ends of the earth, to swoop down on you like an eagle, a nation whose language you won’t understand,a ruthless nation, showing no respect for the old and not sparing the young.They will eat the offspring of your livestock and your land’s produce until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine, fresh oil, young of your herds, or newborn of your flocks until they cause you to perish.They will besiege you within all your city gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your city gates throughout the land the LORD your God has given you.“ You will eat your offspring, the flesh of your sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you.The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly at his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children,refusing to share with any of them his children’s flesh that he will eat because he has nothing left during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you in all your towns.The most sensitive and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her refinement and sensitivity, will begrudge the husband she embraces, her son, and her daughter,the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your city gates.“ If you are not careful to obey all the words of this law, which are written in this scroll, by fearing this glorious and awe-inspiring name— the LORD, your God—he will bring wondrous plagues on you and your descendants, severe and lasting plagues, and terrible and chronic sicknesses.He will afflict you again with all the diseases of Egypt, which you dreaded, and they will cling to you.The LORD will also afflict you with every sickness and plague not recorded in the book of this law, until you are destroyed.Though you were as numerous as the stars of the sky, you will be left with only a few people, because you did not obey the LORD your God.Just as the LORD was glad to cause you to prosper and to multiply you, so he will also be glad to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be ripped out of the land you are entering to possess.Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will worship other gods, of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known.You will find no peace among those nations, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a despondent spirit.Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be in dread night and day, never certain of survival.In the morning you will say,‘ If only it were evening!’ and in the evening you will say,‘ If only it were morning!’— because of the dread you will have in your heart and because of what you will see.The LORD will take you back in ships to Egypt by a route that I said you would never see again. There you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.”

For the LORD listens to the needy and does not despise his own who are prisoners.

Yes, LORD, we wait for you in the path of your judgments. Our desire is for your name and renown.I long for you in the night; yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks you, for when your judgments are in the land, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

He replied to them,“ Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news,

For he will rescue the poor who cry out and the afflicted who have no helper.He will have pity on the poor and helpless and save the lives of the poor.He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious in his sight.

who had not agreed with their plan and action. He was from Arimathea, a Judean town, and was looking forward to the kingdom of God.

Indeed, I will no longer have compassion on the inhabitants of the land”— this is the LORD’s declaration.“ Instead, I will turn everyone over to his neighbor and his king. They will devastate the land, and I will not rescue it from their hand.”So I shepherded the flock intended for slaughter, the oppressed of the flock. I took two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I shepherded the flock.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Didn’t God choose the poor in this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him?Yet you have dishonored the poor. Don’t the rich oppress you and drag you into court?

There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

But I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for, but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear, to this day.And David says, Let their table become a snare and a trap, a pitfall and a retribution to them.Let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and their backs be bent continually.I ask, then, have they stumbled so as to fall? Absolutely not! On the contrary, by their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel jealous.Now if their transgression brings riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fullness bring!
