The people of Israel will become like mighty warriors, and their hearts will be made happy as if by wine. Their children, too, will see it and be glad; their hearts will rejoice in the Lord.

The Ephraimites will become like warriors, and their hearts will be glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the Lord.

The people of Ephraim will become like warriors. Their hearts will be glad as if they were drinking wine. Their children will see it and be filled with joy. I will make their hearts glad.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will protect his people, and they will defeat their enemies by hurling great stones. They will shout in battle as though drunk with wine. They will be filled with blood like a bowl, drenched with blood like the corners of the altar.

And I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship me forever, for their own good and for the good of all their descendants.

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying,“ They’re just drunk, that’s all!”Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd,“ Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that.No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel:‘ In the last days,’ God says,‘ I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants— men and women alike— and they will prophesy.

Alcohol is for the dying, and wine for those in bitter distress.Let them drink to forget their poverty and remember their troubles no more.

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.

Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem!

But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me.

How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again— rejoice!

How wonderful and beautiful they will be! The young men will thrive on abundant grain, and the young women will flourish on new wine.

The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence.”

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”

And Joseph filled their plates with food from his own table, giving Benjamin five times as much as he gave the others. So they feasted and drank freely with him.

So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

When you see these things, your heart will rejoice. You will flourish like the grass! Everyone will see the Lord’s hand of blessing on his servants— and his anger against his enemies.

Only the living can praise you as I do today. Each generation tells of your faithfulness to the next.

No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.

Then Hannah prayed:“ My heart rejoices in the Lord! The Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me.

and God has now fulfilled it for us, their descendants, by raising Jesus. This is what the second psalm says about Jesus:‘ You are my Son. Today I have become your Father.’

This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away— all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory.
