會督必無間然、為上帝家宰、不偏執、不易怒、勿酗、勿競、非義之利勿取、

伊毘司可普、伊毘司可普見腓立比一章一節小註既為天主之家宰、當無可責、不偏執、不遽怒、不好酒、不毆擊、不貪財、

蓋司牧乃天主之家宰、是宜無懈可擊、毋剛愎自用、毋暴氣動怒。凡嗜酒毆人、貪婪財貨、皆非所宜。

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self willed, not quick tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;

As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.

Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.

“ You and your sons are not to drink wine or strong drink whenever you go into the Tent of Meeting, or you will die. This shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.

His watchmen are blind. They are all without knowledge. They are all mute dogs. They can’t bark— dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.Yes, the dogs are greedy. They can never have enough. So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.

Don’t be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

So let a man think of us as Christ’s servants, and stewards of God’s mysteries.Here, moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

This is a faithful saying: someone who seeks to be an overseer desires a good work.The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;( but how could someone who doesn’t know how to rule one’s own house take care of God’s assembly?)not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.Servants, in the same way, must be reverent, not double- tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money,holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.Let them also first be tested; then let them serve if they are blameless.Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, and faithful in all things.Let servants be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.For those who have served well gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle toward all, able to teach, patient,in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,

My soul, don’t come into their council. My glory, don’t be united to their assembly; for in their anger they killed men. In their self- will they hamstrung cattle.

“ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household, to give them their food in due season?

and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good,

A wrathful man stirs up contention, but one who is slow to anger appeases strife.

I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you,

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes to say,‘ Where is strong drink?’lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted.
