伊毘司可普、伊毘司可普見腓立比一章一節小註既為天主之家宰、當無可責、不偏執、不遽怒、不好酒、不毆擊、不貪財、

蓋司牧乃天主之家宰、是宜無懈可擊、毋剛愎自用、毋暴氣動怒。凡嗜酒毆人、貪婪財貨、皆非所宜。

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

For the bishop must be blameless, as God’s steward; not self- willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;

For an overseer, as God’s administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For the overseer must be blameless as one entrusted with God’s work, not arrogant, not prone to anger, not a drunkard, not violent, not greedy for gain.

For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self- pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;

and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt passion, and despise authority. Reckless, self centered, they speak abusively of angelic majesties without trembling,

shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not with greed but with eagerness;

And the Lord said,“ Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the multifaceted grace of God.

And do not get drunk with wine, in which there is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

And these also reel with wine and stagger from intoxicating drink: The priest and the prophet reel with intoxicating drink, They are confused by wine, they stagger from intoxicating drink; They reel while having visions, They stagger when rendering a verdict.

“ Do not drink wine or strong drink, neither you nor your sons with you, when you come into the tent of meeting, so that you do not die— it is a permanent statute throughout your generations—

Nor shall any of the priests drink wine when they enter the inner courtyard.

Paul and Timothy, bond servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons:

His watchmen are blind, All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;And the dogs are greedy, they are never satisfied. And they are shepherds who have no understanding; They have all turned to their own way, Each one to his unjust gain, without exception.“ Come,” they say,“ let’s get wine, and let’s drink heavily of intoxicating drink; And tomorrow will be like today, only more so.”

You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.

A quick tempered person acts foolishly, And a person of evil devices is hated.

Do not be eager in your spirit to be angry, For anger resides in the heart of fools.

This is the way any person is to regard us: as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.

It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do.An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self controlled, respectable, hospitable, skillful in teaching,not overindulging in wine, not a bully, but gentle, not contentious, free from the love of money.He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity( but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?),and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into condemnation incurred by the devil.And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil.Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not insincere, not prone to drink much wine, not greedy for money,but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.These men must also first be tested; then have them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach.Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.Deacons must be husbands of one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households.For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

The Lord’s bond servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, skillful in teaching, patient when wronged,with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

May my soul not enter into their council; May my glory not be united with their assembly; For in their anger they killed men, And in their self will they lamed oxen.

“ Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household slaves, to give them their food at the proper time?

Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,

A hot tempered person stirs up strife, But the slow to anger calms a dispute.

For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you,

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And one who rules his spirit, than one who captures a city.

It is not for kings, Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Or for rulers to desire intoxicating drink,Otherwise they will drink and forget what is decreed, And pervert the rights of all the needy.
