會督必無間然、為上帝家宰、不偏執、不易怒、勿酗、勿競、非義之利勿取、

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

A church leader takes care of God’s family. That’s why he must be without blame. He must not look after only his own interests. He must not get angry easily. He must not get drunk. He must not push people around. He must not try to get money by cheating people.

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

A church leader is a manager of God’s household, so he must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money.

As an overseer of God’s household, he must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not an excessive drinker, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For the overseer must be beyond reproach as God’s steward, not self willed, not quick tempered, not overindulging in wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,

For an overseer, as God’s administrator, must be blameless, not arrogant, not hot-tempered, not addicted to wine, not a bully, not greedy for money,

而縱慾逞邪、犯上作亂者、尤不能倖免。若輩目無法紀、怙惡不悛、誹謗有司、褻瀆神明。

望爾等勉為天主羊群之良牧、勿用霸道、當用王道。毋惟利是圖、當以善為樂。

主曰：『以爾度之、孰為忠敏之家宰、主可賦予職權、督理眾役、而能按時授糧者？

各按所賦才能、互相效勞、庶無負天主多方授才之美意。蓋凡百才能、皆屬天主之付託；爾當忠心耿耿，無忝所受之惠也。

勿酗酒而蕩檢、當醉心於聖神；

基督耶穌之僕、葆樂蒂茂德、致書於斐立比宗奉基督耶穌之聖徒、與監牧副祭曰：

此固我親愛兄弟之所知也。人人應敏於聽、而訥於言。慎毋動怒、人之忿怒、非所以成全天主之正義也。

人當視吾輩為基督之臣僕、天主眾妙之司庫。夫世之所求於司庫者、亦惟忠信而已矣。

『有志作司牧者、乃有志為善者也。』旨哉言乎！是故為司牧者、其立身處世務期無疵可摘、平生未重娶、莊敬自持、循規蹈矩、處事有條不紊、待人和藹可親、優遇遠人、循循善誘；不可沉湎於酒、舉止暴躁；務須溫柔寬裕、與世無爭、不戀財物、尤宜齊家有道、教子有方、使其端正孝順；蓋不能自齊其家者、焉能治理天主之教會乎？奉教不久者、亦不宜遽充司牧；恐其妄自尊大、而蹈沙殫之覆轍。且在教外、亦須具有相當聲譽；恐遭輕侮、而陷於魔鬼之羅網。為副祭者、亦須莊重自愛、弗可一口兩舌、飲酒無度、貪婪不義之財；務以光明正大之心、守持聖教之真諦妙理；亦須先予陶冶、無可指摘、始可充任副祭、女司亦宜莊重自愛、毋道人短、溫恭和平、謹事而信。副祭娶妻、亦以一次為限；教子齊家、無懈可擊。蓋為副祭而善者、不惟自獲嘉級、且於基督耶穌道中、必臻左右逢源之境也。

為主之僕、豈宜耳紅面赤、與人爭論；惟當和氣迎人、循循善誘、寬裕溫柔、足以有容。即欲規人之過、亦須平心靜氣、委宛言之、庶幾天主啟牖其衷、俾得領悟大道、

設有忠智之僕、受家主之託、督其家人、按時給食；

年長婦女、舉止亦宜溫恭有禮、毋道人短、或沉湎於酒、務須循循善誘、

予之所以留汝於革雷底者、欲汝將未了之事、部署停當、並遵吾所囑、為各邑設置長老。
