The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.

I left you on the island of Crete. I did this because there were some things that hadn’t been finished. I wanted you to put them in order. I also wanted you to appoint elders in every town. I told you how to do it.

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you—

我往马其顿省去的时候，曾经劝你继续留在以弗所，好让你吩咐某些人不可传讲别的教义，

你要把那些在许多见证人面前从我所听见的，交托给那些忠心可靠、又有能力教导别人的人。

他们就这么做了，由巴拿巴和扫罗经手，把所捐献的送到长老们那里。

有谁像我呢？让它前来公布、宣告、陈明那从我设立古时民族以来所发生的事；让它宣告即将来临的事和后来要发生的事！

包括犹太人和入犹太教的人；克里特人和阿拉伯人。我们都听见他们用我们的语言述说神伟大的作为！”

那时，大家已经很久没有吃东西了，保罗站在他们当中说：“哦，各位啊！你们当初应该听我的，不从克里特开船，省得有这样的伤害和损失。

因为，我虽然身体不在你们那里，心灵却与你们同在，而且看见你们有秩序，对基督的信仰也坚定不移，我就感到快乐。

传道者不仅有智慧，还把知识教导给民众；他思索、探查，编集了许多箴言。

然而，一切事都要行得端正，并且要按着秩序行。
