我说：我要起来，游行城中，在街市上，在宽阔处，寻找我心所爱的。我寻找他，却寻不见。

“我要起来，绕行城中，在街市上，在广场上，寻找我心所爱的。”我寻找他，却寻不着。

I will get up now and go about the city, through its streets and squares; I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him.

有一個人、是由上帝差遣來的；他名叫約翰。

你們在耶路撒冷街上跑來跑去，去看看，去知道事實，在她的廣場上去尋找，看能找到一人不；若真地有一人行公義、求忠誠，那麼我就要赦免這城。

還有一點，你們知道這時機已是多麼危急了。已是該從睡眠中醒起的鐘點了；因為救恩、現今比我們初信時、更接近於我們了。

聽我的人有福啊！這等人天天在我門口仰望着，在我門框邊守候着。

應當清醒過來，按正義行；別犯罪了。有人對於上帝只是無知無識；我說這話、是要讓你們羞愧的。

因為你才是做我保障的上帝；你為甚麼屏棄我？我為甚麼因仇敵之壓迫而出入悲哀呢？求你發出你的光和忠信，來引導我，帶我到你的聖山、你的居所。我就進到上帝的祭壇前，到上帝、我的極樂、那裏，彈琴稱讚你，上帝，我的上帝啊。我的心哪，你為甚麼沮喪？為甚麼以悲歎壓着我呢？應當仰望上帝；因為我還要稱讚他、我面前的救助、我的上帝。

她在道旁高處之頂點，在十字路口站立着；在城門旁呼叫着，在城門洞的出入口呼喊着，說：

『難道主要永遠屏棄，絕不再喜悅我？難道他的堅愛就永久止息，他的忠信就代代絕止？難道上帝就忘了施恩惠，或閉塞住他慈悲的心麼？』（細拉）我便說：『這是我的弱點：以為至高者的右手權能改變了！』

所以說：『睡着的人哪，醒起來吧，從死人中復起，基督就光照你了。』

沒有人呼求你的名，沒有人奮發、抓住着你；因為你掩面不顧我們，已把我們送交於我們的罪罰權勢了。

我起來，要給我的愛人開門；我的兩手滴下了沒藥，我的指頭有沒藥汁滴在門閂柄上。

那僕人上來，把這些事報告他的主人。於是家主就發怒，對僕人說：「趕快出去到城裏頭大街小巷裏，帶那些討飯的、殘廢的、眼瞎的、瘸腿的、進這裏來。」那僕人說：「主啊，你所吩咐的已經辦了，還有位子呢。」主人就對那僕人說：「你出去到大路上和籬笆那裏，勉強人進來，使我的屋子都滿了人。

我的上帝，我的上帝，你為甚麼離棄了我？為甚麼遠離而不救我？不聽我哀哼的話呢？我的上帝啊，我白日呼求，你不應；我夜間呼求，都得不着安寧。

智慧在街市上呼喊，在廣場上發聲；在牆頂上喊叫，在城門口講訓言，說：

你的瀑布一發了聲，深淵就和深淵響應；你的洪濤和波浪都漫過我。我晝夜所思慕的，我向我生命之上帝所禱告的就是：願上帝吩咐他的堅愛來救助我。我要對上帝我的磐石說：『你為甚麼忘了我？我為甚麼須因仇敵的壓迫而時常悲哀呢？』

他來到門徒那裏，見他們睡着，就對彼得說：『你們竟這樣沒有力量同我儆醒麼？要儆醒，要禱告，免得入了試誘；心靈固然切願着，肉體卻軟弱。』
