然則天主果食其言矣乎？無是理也！蓋出自義塞者、非必盡為義塞人；

夫上帝之言不廢、由以色列生者、不得盡為以色列人、

然此非謂天主之言廢也、蓋由以色列生者、非皆為以色列人、

It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.

I do not mean that God’s word has failed. Not everyone in the family line of Israel really belongs to Israel.

But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel,

Well then, has God failed to fulfill his promise to Israel? No, for not all who are born into the nation of Israel are truly members of God’s people!

Now it is not as though the word of God has failed, because not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.

But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel,

But it is not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel:

凡遵此則而行者、願平安及慈恩加之、並加於天主之真義塞也。

蓋外表之猶太人、非真猶太人；而形軀之割禮、非真割禮。惟內心為猶太人、真為猶太人；心靈之割禮、真為割禮。蓋割禮在精神、而不在形式、在取悅於天主、而不在苟合於人耳。

其中縱有負此託付者、亦無礙宏旨。人之不誠、豈能廢天主之至誠乎？

耶穌見納大那來訪、指之曰：『此誠義塞人、心無詭譎者！』

亦為既受割而能踵效其未割時所具之信德者之父也。蓋亞伯漢及其苗裔、承天主恩諾、得嗣大地者、非憑律法之制、乃緣信德之義。若惟屬於律法者得為嗣子、是不啻廢棄信德、而致恩諾於無效也。夫法者、刑戮之器也；法之不存、何犯之有。是故人之為嗣、所緣惟信德、所恃惟慈惠；庶幾天主之恩諾、能普被眾裔、不僅限於屬法者亦且兼及具有亞伯漢之信德者。

然則吾豈謂天主已棄絕其子民乎？無是理也！即吾本人亦為義塞人、乃亞伯漢之苗裔、而出於便雅明之支派者也。是天主固未曾棄絕其所預識之子民。抑爾未知經中所載伊理藹向天主控訴義塞之言乎？

夫承天主聖言者、且得稱為神、而經文固不可廢也；

人若無信義、彼則仍有信至誠無妄者、安能違其性。』

天地可廢、吾言不可廢也。

天主之立誓、亦欲昭示承恩諾者、以其所諾乃一成不變云耳。天主至誠無妄、又重之以一成不變之誓、與一成不變之諾、其所以慰藉吾人、安定吾人之心者、亦云備矣。
