They are the people of Israel. They have been adopted as God’s children. God’s glory belongs to them. So do the covenants. They received the law. They were taught to worship in the temple. They were given the promises.

They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises.

Then you shall say to Pharaoh,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ Israel is My son, My firstborn.

But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Now even the first covenant had regulations for divine worship and the earthly sanctuary.

For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His personal possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

“ You are sons of the Lord your God; you shall not cut yourselves nor shave a bald spot above your forehead for the dead.

For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it as the people listened; and they said,“ All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said,“ Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out,“ Abba! Father!”

Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a delightful child? Indeed, as often as I have spoken against him, I certainly still remember him; Therefore My heart yearns for him; I will certainly have mercy on him,” declares the Lord.

And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying,“ This is what you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel:‘ You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.

“ Listen to Me, house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been carried by Me from birth And have been carried from the womb;

Great in every respect. First, that they were entrusted with the actual words of God.

The Lord said to Moses,“ Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will arise and play the prostitute with the foreign gods of the land into the midst of which they are going, and they will abandon Me and break My covenant which I have made with them.

But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, to the extent that He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.For if that first covenant had been free of fault, no circumstances would have been sought for a second.For in finding fault with the people, He says,“ Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, When I will bring about a new covenant With the house of Israel and the house of Judah,Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers On the day I took them by the hand To bring them out of the land of Egypt; For they did not continue in My covenant, And I did not care about them, says the Lord.For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel After those days, declares the Lord: I will put My laws into their minds, And write them on their hearts. And I will be their God, And they shall be My people.

“ Listen to another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and he leased it to vine growers and went on a journey.

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,“ To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:

Behind the second veil there was a tabernacle which is called the Most Holy Place,

And He gave up His strength to captivity And His glory into the hand of the enemy.

Now when Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with Him, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the atoning cover that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim; so He spoke to him.

And has raised up a horn of salvation for us In the house of His servant David—Just as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient times—Salvation from our enemies, And from the hand of all who hate us;To show mercy to our fathers, And to remember His holy covenant,The oath which He swore to our father Abraham,To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, Would serve Him without fear,In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

God certainly is good to Israel, To those who are pure in heart!

I will not violate My covenant, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.

“ But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend,

Let Your work appear to Your servants And Your majesty to their children.

I gave them My statutes and informed them of My ordinances, which, if a person follows them, then he will live by them.Also I gave them My Sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, so that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’God raised up His Servant for you first, and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”

He has given help to His servant Israel, In remembrance of His mercy,Just as He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”

I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.

Remember them, my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites.

When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.

When you enter the land which the Lord will give you, as He has promised, you shall keep this rite.

For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers,that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm:‘ You are My Son; today I have fathered You.’

“ I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to My servant David,

Then You came down on Mount Sinai, And spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances and true laws, Good statutes and commandments.So You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, And gave them commandments, statutes, and law, Through Your servant Moses.

Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor will the moon give you light for brightness; But you will have the Lord as an everlasting light, And your God as your glory.

So have I seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and glory.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and* said of him,“ Here is truly an Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!”

“ For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord:“ I will put My law within them and write it on their heart; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Then he said,“ Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have contended with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

since they relate only to food, drink, and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.

He dug it all around, cleared it of stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. And He built a tower in the middle of it, And also carved out a wine vat in it; Then He expected it to produce good grapes, But it produced only worthless ones.

“ Now it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant and this oath,

And she named the boy Ichabod, saying,“ The glory has departed from Israel,” because the ark of God had been taken and because of her father in law and her husband.So she said,“ The glory has departed from Israel, because the ark of God has been taken.”

They will come with weeping, And by pleading I will bring them; I will lead them by streams of waters, On a straight path on which they will not stumble; For I am a father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.”

“ This is what the Lord says:‘ If you can break My covenant for the day and My covenant for the night, so that day and night do not occur at their proper time,then My covenant with David My servant may also be broken, so that he will not have a son to reign on his throne, and with the Levitical priests, My ministers.As the heavenly lights cannot be counted, and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the descendants of My servant David and the Levites who serve Me.’ ”And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,“ Have you not observed what these people have asserted, saying,‘ The two families which the Lord chose, He has rejected them’? So they despise My people as no longer being a nation in their sight.This is what the Lord says:‘ If My covenant for day and night does not continue, and I have not established the fixed patterns of heaven and earth,

For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear an oath by no one greater, He swore by Himself,saying,“ indeed I will greatly bless you and I will greatly multiply you.”And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.For people swear an oath by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath serving as confirmation is an end of every dispute.In the same way God, desiring even more to demonstrate to the heirs of the promise the fact that His purpose is unchangeable, confirmed it with an oath,

These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He had made with them at Horeb.
