因为受造之物服在虚空之下，不是自己愿意，乃是因那叫他如此的。

因为受造之物屈服在虚空之下，不是自己愿意，而是因那使它屈服的叫他如此。但受造之物仍然指望从败坏的辖制下得释放，得享上帝儿女荣耀的自由。

因为受造之物处在虚空之下并非出于情愿，而是出于上帝的旨意。

被創造之物服在徒勞挫折之下、不是自願的，乃是因那叫它服在指望中者的旨意；

因為被造之物屈從在虛妄之下，並不是出於自願，而是出於使它屈從的那一位；

蓋受造之物服於虛、非其本願、因服之者之故耳、

萬物歸於虛、非其心、蓋有使之者、

萬物歸於虛、非其所願、乃有使之者、然仍有望、

夫芸芸眾生、迄今屈伏於無常之下、非出自願、有制之者耳。

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

The created world was held back from fulfilling its purpose. But this was not the result of its own choice. It was planned that way by the one who held it back. God planned

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope

Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope,

But to Adam he said,“ Because you obeyed your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you,‘ You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground thanks to you; in painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.It will produce thorns and thistles for you, but you will eat the grain of the field.By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.”

He named him Noah, saying,“ This one will bring us comfort from our labor and from the painful toil of our hands because of the ground that the LORD has cursed.”

“ Futile! Futile!” laments the Teacher,“ Absolutely futile! Everything is futile!”

For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers together until now.

Even the doe abandons her newborn fawn in the field because there is no grass.Wild donkeys stand on the hilltops and pant for breath like jackals. Their eyes are strained looking for food, because there is none to be found.”

How long must the land be parched and the grass in every field be withered? How long must the animals and the birds die because of the wickedness of the people who live in this land? For these people boast,“ God will not see what happens to us.”

So God said to Noah,“ I have decided that all living creatures must die, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Now I am about to destroy them and the earth.

They will lay it waste. It will lie parched and empty before me. The whole land will be laid waste. But no one living in it will pay any heed.

Listen to the cattle groan! The herds of livestock wander around in confusion because they have no pasture. Even the flocks of sheep are suffering.

The earth is defiled by its inhabitants, for they have violated laws, disregarded the regulation, and broken the permanent treaty.So a treaty curse devours the earth; its inhabitants pay for their guilt. This is why the inhabitants of the earth disappear, and are reduced to just a handful of people.

Therefore the land will mourn, and all its inhabitants will perish. The wild animals, the birds of the sky, and even the fish in the sea will perish.

But the tents of robbers are peaceful, and those who provoke God are confident– who carry their god in their hands.“ But now, ask the animals and they will teach you, or the birds of the sky and they will tell you.Or speak to the earth and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea declare to you.Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this,in whose hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all the human race.
