我們這短暫而輕微的苦楚要為我們成就極重、無比、永遠的榮耀。因為我們不是顧念看得見的，而是顧念看不見的；原來看得見的是暫時的，看不見的才是永遠的。

倒要歡喜，因為你們是與基督一同受苦，使你們在他榮耀顯現的時候也可以歡喜快樂。

就是為你們這些藉着信、蒙神大能保守的人，能獲得他所預備、到末世要顯現的救恩。雖然你們必須在百般試煉中暫時憂愁，你們要為此喜樂，使你們的信心既被考驗，就比那被火試煉仍然能壞的金子更顯寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候得着稱讚、榮耀、尊貴。

我卻不以性命為念，只要走完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為神恩典的福音作見證。

也必使你們這受患難的人與我們同得平安。那時，主耶穌同他有權能的天使從天上在火焰中顯現，要報應那些不認識神和不聽從我們的主耶穌福音的人。

所以，要準備好你們的心，謹慎自守，專心盼望耶穌基督顯現的時候帶給你們的恩惠。

基督是你們的生命，他顯現的時候，你們也要與他一同在榮耀裏顯現。

「人若因我辱罵你們，迫害你們，捏造各樣壞話毀謗你們，你們就有福了！要歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞賜是很多的。在你們以前的先知，人也是這樣迫害他們。」

他寧可和神的百姓一同受苦，也不願在罪中享受片刻的歡樂。他把為彌賽亞受凌辱看得比埃及的財物更寶貴，因為他想望所要得的賞賜。

為此，神藉着我們所傳的福音呼召你們，好得着我們主耶穌基督的榮光。

所以，我這同作長老，作基督受苦的證人和分享將來所要顯現的榮耀的人，勉勵在你們中間的長老們：

有些婦人得回從死人中復活的親人。又有人忍受嚴刑，拒絕被釋放，為要得着更美好的復活。
