因為我們短暫輕微的患難，是要為我們成就極大無比、永遠的榮耀。我們所顧念的，不是看得見的，而是看不見的；因為看得見的是暫時的，看不見的是永遠的。

倒要歡喜，因為你們既然在基督的受苦上有分，就在他榮耀顯現的時候，可以歡喜快樂。

就是你們這因信蒙神能力保守的人，得著預備在末世要顯現的救恩。因此，你們要喜樂。然而，你們現今在各種試煉中或許暫時會難過，是要叫你們的信心經過試驗，就比那被火煉過，仍會朽壞的金子更寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候，得著稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。

但我並不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我從主耶穌所領受的職分，為神恩惠的福音作見證。

所以要準備好你們的心，警醒謹慎，專心盼望耶穌基督顯現的時候所要帶給你們的恩典。

基督就是你們的生命，他顯現的時候，你們也要和他一同在榮耀裡顯現。

人若因我的緣故辱罵你們，迫害你們，並且捏造各樣壞話毀謗你們，你們就有福了。你們應該歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上的賞賜是大的；在你們以前的先知，他們也曾這樣迫害。

他寧願選擇和神的子民一同受苦，也不肯享受罪惡中暫時的快樂。在他看來，為著基督受的凌辱，比埃及的財物更寶貴，因為他注視將來的賞賜。

因此，神藉著我們所傳的福音呼召你們，使你們得著我們主耶穌基督的榮耀。

我這同作長老，也是為基督受苦作見證，又是同享將來所要顯現的榮耀的，勸你們當中作長老的：

有些婦女得回從死裡復活的親人；但也有些人忍受了酷刑，不肯接受釋放，為的是要得著更美的復活。
