我看现在的苦难，与将要向我们显出的荣耀，是无法相比的。

因为我们短暂轻微的患难，是要为我们成就极大无比、永远的荣耀。我们所顾念的，不是看得见的，而是看不见的；因为看得见的是暂时的，看不见的是永远的。

倒要欢喜，因为你们既然在基督的受苦上有分，就在他荣耀显现的时候，可以欢喜快乐。

就是你们这因信蒙神能力保守的人，得着预备在末世要显现的救恩。因此，你们要喜乐。然而，你们现今在各种试炼中或许暂时会难过，是要叫你们的信心经过试验，就比那被火炼过，仍会朽坏的金子更宝贵，可以在耶稣基督显现的时候，得著称赞、荣耀和尊贵。

但我并不珍惜自己的性命，只求跑完我的路程，完成我从主耶稣所领受的职分，为神恩惠的福音作见证。

所以要准备好你们的心，警醒谨慎，专心盼望耶稣基督显现的时候所要带给你们的恩典。

基督就是你们的生命，他显现的时候，你们也要和他一同在荣耀里显现。

人若因我的缘故辱骂你们，迫害你们，并且捏造各样坏话毁谤你们，你们就有福了。你们应该欢喜快乐，因为你们在天上的赏赐是大的；在你们以前的先知，他们也曾这样迫害。

他宁愿选择和神的子民一同受苦，也不肯享受罪恶中暂时的快乐。在他看来，为着基督受的凌辱，比埃及的财物更宝贵，因为他注视将来的赏赐。

因此，神藉着我们所传的福音呼召你们，使你们得着我们主耶稣基督的荣耀。

我这同作长老，也是为基督受苦作见证，又是同享将来所要显现的荣耀的，劝你们当中作长老的：

有些妇女得回从死里复活的亲人；但也有些人忍受了酷刑，不肯接受释放，为的是要得着更美的复活。
