我們這短暫輕微的苦難正在為我們成就極大無比、永遠的榮耀。我們注重的，並非看得見的事物，而是看不見的事物，因為看得見的事物都是暫時的，看不見的事物才是永恆的。

反倒要歡喜，因為你們是與基督一起受苦。這樣，你們在祂的榮耀顯現時可以和祂一同歡喜快樂。

你們這些因信而蒙上帝用大能保守的人，必能得到那已經預備好、在末世要顯明的救恩。為此，即使現今你們必須暫時在百般試煉中忍受痛苦，也要滿懷喜樂。這樣，你們的信心經過試驗便顯明是真實的，比那經過火煉仍會壞掉的金子更加寶貴，使你們可以在耶穌基督顯現時得到稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。

不過哪怕是犧牲性命，我也在所不辭，，只盼望我能跑完當跑的路程，完成主耶穌交託給我的使命，為上帝充滿恩典的福音做見證。

當主耶穌和祂大能的天使在烈焰中從天上顯現時，祂必使你們這些受苦的人和我們同得安慰，懲罰那些不認識上帝、不聽從有關我們主耶穌之福音的人。那些人要受的刑罰就是離開主的面和祂榮耀的權能，永遠滅亡。主降臨的那日，祂要在祂的眾聖徒中得到榮耀，使所有的信徒驚歎不已。你們也會在當中，因為你們相信了我們做的見證。因此，我們常常為你們禱告，願我們的上帝看你們配得祂的呼召，用大能成全你們一切美好的心願和憑信心所做的工作。這樣，按照我們的上帝和主耶穌基督所賜的恩典，主耶穌基督的名便在你們身上得到榮耀，你們也在祂身上得到榮耀。

所以，要預備好你們的心，謹慎自律，專心盼望耶穌基督顯現時要帶給你們的恩典。

基督就是你們的新生命，祂顯現的時候，你們也必和祂一起在榮耀中顯現。

「人們因為我的緣故侮辱、迫害、肆意毀謗你們，你們就有福了。要歡喜快樂，因為你們在天上有很大的獎賞。他們也曾這樣迫害以前的先知。

寧願與上帝的子民一同受苦，也不肯享受一時的罪中之樂。在他眼中，為基督所受的凌辱遠比埃及的財富更有價值，因為他盼望的是將來的賞賜。

上帝藉著我們所傳的福音呼召了你們，使你們可以得到我們主耶穌基督的榮耀。

我是基督受苦的見證人，將分享以後所顯明的榮耀。我以長老的身分勸你們中間作長老的：

有些婦女得回了從死裡復活的親人；有些人受盡嚴刑拷打，仍不肯苟且偷生，為要得到一個復活後更美好的生命。
