这样，我们要怎么说呢？律法是罪吗？绝对不是！但是，若不是藉着律法，我就不知何为罪；若不是律法说“不可贪心”，我就不知何为贪心。

这样，我们可说什么呢？律法是罪吗？断乎不是！只是非因律法，我就不知何为罪。非律法说“不可起贪心”，我就不知何为贪心。

这样，我们要怎么说呢？律法是罪吗？绝对不是！但是，若不是藉着律法，我就不知何为罪；若不是律法说“不可贪心”，我就不知何为贪心。

那么，我们可以说律法本身是罪吗？当然不是！没有律法，我们就不知道什么是罪。律法若不说“不可贪心”，我就不知道什么是贪心。

那麼，我們要怎麼說呢？難道律法是罪嗎？絕對不是！然而，要不是藉著律法，我就不知道什麼是罪。如果律法沒有說「不可貪心」，我就不知道什麼是貪心；

然則將何言耶、律豈罪乎、非也、非由律則我未嘗知罪、如律不言毋欲、則我不知欲、

然則何以言之、律法豈惡之因乎、曰、不然、非法無以見惡、蓋律法不禁欲、吾末由識欲、

然則何言、律法即罪乎、非也、然非由律法、我不識罪、律法若不云勿貪、則我不識貪、

於此吾人更有何說？將謂法即罪乎？無是理也！法非罪、乃所以燭吾之罪耳。法若不曰「毋淫、」則吾將不知淫之為淫矣。

What shall we say, then? Is the law sinful? Certainly not! Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

What should we say then? That the law is sinful? Not at all! Yet I wouldn’t have known what sin was unless the law had told me. The law says,“ Do not want what belongs to other people.”( Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21) If the law hadn’t said that, I would not have known what it was like to want what belongs to others.

What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is sinful? Of course not! In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said,“ You must not covet.”

What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said,“ You shall not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:

What should we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin if it were not for the law. For example, I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, Do not covet.

What shall we say then?[ Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else if the law had not said,“ Do not covet.”

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said,“ You shall not covet.”

所以，凡血肉之躯没有一个能因律法的行为而在上帝面前称义，因为律法本是要人认识罪。

然而，罪趁着机会，藉着诫命，使各样的贪心在我里头发动，因为没有律法，罪是死的。

“不可贪恋你邻舍的房屋；不可贪恋你邻舍的妻子、奴仆、婢女、牛驴，以及他一切所有的。”

“‘不可贪恋你邻舍的妻子；也不可贪图你邻舍的房屋、田地、仆婢、牛驴，以及他一切所有的。’

因为律法是惹动愤怒的，哪里没有律法，哪里就没有过犯。

死亡的毒刺就是罪，罪的权势就是律法。

那不可奸淫，不可杀人，不可偷盗，不可贪婪，或别的诫命，都包括在“爱邻如己”这一句话之内了。

耶和华的律法全备，使人苏醒；耶和华的法度确定，使愚蒙人有智慧。耶和华的训词正直，使人心快活；耶和华的命令清洁，使人眼目明亮。耶和华的典章真实，全然公义，敬畏耶和华是纯洁的，存到永远，比金子可羡慕，比极多的纯金可羡慕；比蜜甘甜，比蜂房下滴的蜜甘甜。因此你的仆人受警戒，遵守这些有极大的赏赐。谁能察觉自己的错失呢？求你赦免我隐藏的过犯。

我姑且照着人的看法来说，我们的不义若显出上帝的义来，我们要怎么说呢？上帝降怒是他不义吗？

至于淫乱和一切污秽，或是贪婪，在你们中间连提都不可，这才合乎圣徒的体统。

于是女人见那棵树好作食物，又悦人的眼目，那树令人喜爱，能使人有智慧，她就摘下果子吃了，又给了与她一起的丈夫，他也吃了。

那么，那善的是叫我死吗？绝对不是！叫我死的是罪。罪藉着那善的叫我死，为要显出这真是罪，以致罪藉着诫命更显出是恶极了。

黄昏的时候，大卫从床上起来，在王宫的平顶上散步。他从平顶上看见一个妇人沐浴，这妇人容貌非常美丽。

我看万事尽都有限，惟有你的命令极其宽广。

我在所夺取的财物中看见一件美好的示拿外袍，二百舍客勒银子，一条重五十舍客勒的金子。我贪爱这些物件，就拿去了。看哪，这些东西都埋在我帐棚内的地里，银子在外袍底下。”

于是他对他们说：“你们要谨慎自守，躲避一切的贪心，因为人的生命不在于家道丰富。”

他们看上田地就占据，贪图房屋便夺取；他们欺压户主和他的家庭，霸占人和他的产业。

但是我告诉你们：凡看见妇女就动淫念的，这人心里已经与她犯奸淫了。

这样，那按肉体作我们祖宗的亚伯拉罕，我们要怎么说呢？

我未曾贪图一个人的金、银或衣服。

因为我们属肉体的时候，那因律法而生犯罪的欲望在我们肢体中发动，以致结出死亡的果子。

不要爱世界和世界上的东西，若有人爱世界，爱父的心就不在他里面了。因为凡世界上的东西，好比肉体的情欲、眼目的情欲和今生的骄傲，都不是从父来的，而是从世界来的。

所以，要治死你们在地上的肢体；就如淫乱、污秽、邪情、恶欲和贪婪—贪婪就是拜偶像。

这些事以后，又有一事。耶斯列人拿伯在耶斯列有一个葡萄园，靠近撒玛利亚，亚哈王的宫。亚哈对拿伯说：“把你的葡萄园给我作菜园，因为它靠近我的宫，我就把更好的葡萄园换给你。你若要银子，我就按着价钱给你。”拿伯对亚哈说：“耶和华不准我把我祖先留下的产业给你。”亚哈因耶斯列人拿伯说“我不把我祖先留下的产业给你”，就生气，忧闷地回宫，躺在床上，脸转向内，也不吃饭。

不放纵私欲的邪情，像不认识上帝的外邦人。

因为罪趁着机会，藉着诫命诱惑我，并且藉着诫命杀了我。

那又怎么样呢？我们在恩典之下，不在律法之下，就可以犯罪吗？绝对不可！
