And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.

昔之所行、今日恥之、其效維何、終則死亡、

乃昔所行者、今日恥之、何益哉、終亦必亡而已、

爾昔日所行之事、今日所恥者、獲何益益原文作果哉、因此事終致死亡、

試一思之、爾昔日所行、今日所恥之種切、於爾究有何益？死亡為其必然之結果！

What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!

What benefit did you gain from doing the things you are now ashamed of? Those things lead to death!

But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

So what fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? The outcome of those things is death.

Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.

What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

So what fruit was produced then from the things you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things[ is] death.

So what benefit did you then reap from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death.

What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.

When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death.

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

But if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless. The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.

And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.

Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

Then the king said to Abiathar the priest,“ Go back to your home in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not kill you now, because you carried the Ark of the Sovereign Lord for David my father and you shared all his hardships.”

Since they shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, you have given them blood to drink. It is their just reward.”

These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

Don’t be misled— you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us.

Then Jeremiah said to all of them, men and women alike, who had given him that answer,“ Do you think the Lord did not know that you and your ancestors, your kings and officials, and all the people were burning incense to idols in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?It was because the Lord could no longer bear all the disgusting things you were doing that he made your land an object of cursing— a desolate ruin without inhabitants— as it is today.All these terrible things happened to you because you have burned incense to idols and sinned against the Lord. You have refused to obey him and have not followed his instructions, his decrees, and his laws.”Then Jeremiah said to them all, including the women,“ Listen to this message from the Lord, all you citizens of Judah who live in Egypt.

“ Stolen water is refreshing; food eaten in secret tastes the best!”But little do they know that the dead are there. Her guests are in the depths of the grave.

I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

“ I am nothing— how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand.

For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. And if judgment begins with us, what terrible fate awaits those who have never obeyed God’s Good News?

My people have planted wheat but are harvesting thorns. They have worn themselves out, but it has done them no good. They will harvest a crop of shame because of the fierce anger of the Lord.”

Then you will remember your past sins and despise yourselves for all the detestable things you did.But remember, says the Sovereign Lord, I am not doing this because you deserve it. O my people of Israel, you should be utterly ashamed of all you have done!

But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be two or three witnesses.

There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.

and they will be ashamed of what they have done. Describe to them all the specifications of the Temple— including its entrances and exits— and everything else about it. Tell the godly that all will be well for them. They will enjoy the rich reward they have earned!

Just see what this godly sorrow produced in you! Such earnestness, such concern to clear yourselves, such indignation, such alarm, such longing to see me, such zeal, and such a readiness to punish wrong. You showed that you have done everything necessary to make things right.

Are they ashamed of these disgusting actions? Not at all— they don’t even know how to blush! Therefore, they will lie among the slaughtered. They will be brought down when I punish them, says the Lord.

But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.

For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

Therefore, they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way, choking on their own schemes.

Then you will remember with shame all the evil you have done. I will make your sisters, Samaria and Sodom, to be your daughters, even though they are not part of our covenant.And I will reaffirm my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.You will remember your sins and cover your mouth in silent shame when I forgive you of all that you have done. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”

Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked.

Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor.In the end you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body.You will say,“ How I hated discipline! If only I had not ignored all the warnings!Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors?

That’s why even the spring rains have failed. For you are a brazen prostitute and completely shameless.

I prayed,“ O my God, I am utterly ashamed; I blush to lift up my face to you. For our sins are piled higher than our heads, and our guilt has reached to the heavens.

“ When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself,‘ At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger!I will go home to my father and say,“ Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you,and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’“ So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.His son said to him,‘ Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son.’

I turned away from God, but then I was sorry. I kicked myself for my stupidity! I was thoroughly ashamed of all I did in my younger days.’

Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death.

They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
